I am flying my family to Colorado for a vacation and need to rent a car. Which car rental companies do y’all prefer and which to stay away from? Thank you

If you have a Costco membership be sure to shop rental car pricing thru Costco Travel. I've had great luck with them.

National, full stop.

But guess depends if have Emerald or Exec status. If you don’t, prob the same as every other company. Slow and a pain in the arse.

Never ever do Budget out of the Denver airport.

Avis has always been good and it’s grab and go when you get to the lot.

I did turo on this last trip and it was pretty stellar.

This for all Budget locations. And like another poster said, if you use Costco you will save a big chunk of money. A membership is about $60 and I just saved $400 over a 11 day rental period by using Costco

I have been using Costco for car rentals. They allow an extra driver for free. I almost always choose Enterprise Even if they aren't the cheapest. My last 3 rentals have been brand new cars. Customer service has been great.

Pro tip, find a rental company a few miles from the airport and Uber to it.

Much cheaper than the ones on the airport property.

I rented from some company called Routes out of Denver earlier this summer. It was ridiculously cheap so I was skeptical but had zero issues.

Everything at DEN is offsite, which means a shuttle. I used to use Silvercar but they moved all locations to Audi dealerships in the city.

I've got status with Avis, National, and Hertz and they've all been fine. Never used Sixt but hear good things about them.

This. Costco travel. It'll pay for membership with one use if not a member.
Usually get deals on insurance and free second driver

Glad to hear that. I’ve purposely not rented from them due to the many negative reviews I’ve read online. There were just too many to ignore.

Sixt is my "go to". I have never had a bad experience with them in the dozen or so times I have used them. They make the car rental experience so easy

**I will say I have not used them in CO

I had never heard of Sixt until recently. I'm headed to Maui in Oct and been reading the Maui subreddit and saw them mentioned.

It seems like a no brainer for me, as I can get a nice SUV for almost half of Hertz etc. This is specific to Maui as it's not the case for other cities I checked.

Now with Sixt if you want that price, you have to pay upfront and there is a fee to cancel. Or you accept 15% higher rate, pay at pickup and no fee to cancel. Even with the latter, it's still a better price.

I am pretty loyal to National with Executive Isle use because of credit card status but the qualty of cars available on exec isles has seem to go down alot the last 3 years or so. What used to be Audi, Mercedes and BMW is now Nissan, Toyota and Volkswagon.

I'll use Budget from time to time and never had an issue but the only time I really use them now is when we cruise because at almost every port, they have a location with a free shuttle to the pier and alot of other companies stopped that service with the popularity of rideshares.

Use Enterprise family: Enterprise, National, Alamo. Can’t go wrong with any of these.

Avoid Hertz family: Hertz, Dollar, Thrifty. Don’t do it!

When I started traveling for work extensively, 20 years ago, I chose Hertz and Enterprise as my main car rental places. Ended up sticking with Hertz more because they were more readily available in the places I was going. Been a Gold member for 20 years. They have horrible customer service and rewards. Hertz sucks. I don't know who is better but Hertz fricking sucks.

I was there in the spring and ended up using Fox. I think it's much smaller/independent. They have kind of a weird location, but they were good to deal with. Rented a Grand Wagoneer.
