Are college bars just as popular as in the 80s/90s?

Just curious if they still are. There were a ton of college bars when I went to LSU in the 80s/90s.
I get the feeling todays kids don’t drink as much? Or maybe the drinking age being 21 has hurt the scene a lot?
How do todays college bars work? Get a wristband if over 21 and then someone older buys a drink for the non wristband ones? How is that even possible for the bar to monitor that? A jack and coke is gonna look like a regular coke.
Are college bars today just as popular? Are they just as packed as back in the day?

College kids don't go out. They stay home and compulsively scroll TikTok.

I went to Reggies last night and whooped five Frat Stars at once.

LSU put out flyers all over campus during registration in the 80s announcing free keggers for all freshmen

Back in my day they would give a stamp to those under 21 that would easily wash off. The owners would also happily pay the bartenders fine for announcing when a raid was about to happen.

They did their job at the door, and their bartenders are trained to look for stamps/wristbands. They covered the bare minimum responsibilities.

I don't know about you all, but I prefer my Tide Pods with ketchup and pickles.

Are those tents in the parking lot permanent now? Where do people park?

Much better back in the day.
When I was in school the drinking age was 18 which meant that you could start going at 16 or 17. And Tigerland was a nice neighborhood. The good old days.

In my town, the college bars are only filled with the yuppie types. Unfortunately, most are glued to their screens. Even at younger ages, the kids are completely tuned out of their surroundings. It’s sad.
I know the generation before me probably shite on us, but we still operated similarly in terms of going out and socializing.

Kids today go to school for all the right reasons (well, more kids do today than back in the day.. it seems) and it seems to just be different.
My nephew is 21 years old. Still lives at home, has never wanted to leave home. He had no interest in going to college and has worked since graduating HS.
The good side.. Dude has saved up a good bit. My brother told me he puts 75% of each check in his savings.. I wish I saved like he does, but.. During the week he goes work out with friends, and once or twice a month they "go out", but its not how we went out.
He told my brother he wanted to go to Freds and my brother told him its best if he didn't, etc. And I asked my brother why did he ask him about going.. He is 21.. If he wanted to go.. he could go. The idea of asking parents if I could go somewhere after I turned 18 is crazy. I just went. Parenting seems completely different than what I grew up with. My mom had no idea where I went. I don't think she really cared. As long as she didn't get a call from the police during the night she was good.
With all that said, I am sure there are still those who go out.

Yes. But I think they might be expanding with an actual building. They park all over the place. Grass. Railroad tracks. Up Nicholson.

Made a trip to see family near ASU's campus in Tempe last fall and can confirm, Mill Ave still gets packed with college kids later at night.

There wasn’t shite else to do back in the day. The question wasn’t “Wanna go to the bar?” It was “Which bar are we going to tonight?”
