Is this honestly different from having your guys come over for dinner or temporarily letting a kid live with you (which used to happen all the time)?

Per ESPN
quote:

Former NFL quarterback Teddy Bridgewater has been suspended from his position as a high school football coach in Miami for allegedly providing impermissible benefits to his players.

quote:

Bridgewater posted earlier this month on Facebook that he paid for Uber rides, meals and recovery services for his players last season. He asked fans to donate to help cover such expenses this year.

quote:

He said in the post confirming his suspension that he self-reported the payments to Miami Northwestern.

Pretty sure he self reported to the entire internet when he asked for donations so he doesn't have to come out of pocket again.

Lemme get this straight.

Colleges can openly, publicly, and above-the-table pay HS recruits millions all in the name of "NIL" and that's all well and good.

But a HS coach paying an uber ride or letting a kid sleep on your couch a few days gets the coach suspended?

How in the world did we get here?

I mean the NCAA was notorious for coming down on this same kind of stuff up until the courts said they can’t enforce any of it post NIL

Most areas you can get paid NIL for high school as well so I don’t think you’re picking the best point of reference, although I agree it’s silly for both levels

They don’t care about payers getting impermissible benefits, they only care about who the players get them from.

A lot of these kids don’t really have parents. Teddy was doing the Lords work and is getting in trouble for it.

He’s said in his post that a lot of what he was going was above and beyond what was required but it’s likely this may be the nicest and most organized thing these kids ever experience. Total bullshite
