What was your honest first thought when you saw Burrow going off on UCF?

Were you legitimately thinking wow this guy is going to go on and have the greatest single season in CFB history in 2019?

I certainly wasn’t. I was thinking wow Burrow is having the best game of the season. He’s going off but it’s still UCF. It didn’t really click in my head that this is actually happening until they went to Texas. At that point I was like wait a minute this might be real. Then it finally clicked for sure at Tuscaloosa. After that game I was sold. This is happening.

I was just happy we were ending the season on a good note. Good momentum into next year. It was also nice to shut UCF up.

It was a few games into 2019 when it hit me that we could be watching the best LSU team ever. After beating Bama I felt like it was only a matter of staying healthy and focused and they would win it all.

After the hit and watching him return in that game, I thought he was one tough SOB who was only getting better, and I was excited about the following season. I had no idea how great it would be. However, after 3rd and 17 against Texas, I texted several friends that we are looking at a Heisman season and didn't get one response.

Burrow showed that swag a few times in the 2018 season. Remember when Georgia came to tiger stadium. All those Georgia fans made that trip and thought they would kick our arse but Burrow shows us and the country a preview.

Eta: I believe Georgia was ranked like #2 or something like that at the time.

3rd and 17 was the epiphany for me. That play marked the new era.

I still had no clue he'd become what he would his senior year.

That the cfp committe was breathing a sigh of relief as Burrow and LSU proceeded to beat the brakes off UCF after spotting them a big lead.

I thought he was turning the corner the latter part of the season. I believe he finished with 10 TDs vs 1 INT. In the offseason I argued with some that I thought he could improve to be a 2nd or 3rd RD pick vs their thoughts of him being an UDFA. Then some annoying dude named Buckeye Joe or something like that made these wild predictions about Burrow's next season which pretty much everyone including me thought was ridiculous. And he turned out to be right.

I also remember a lot of arguments about jugs machines.

He went “off” after that dirty cheap shot hit, but he also played extremely well. We had a lot of suspensions and opt outs for that game as well so I truly didn’t think we’d win. After all, ucf basically claimed a national title the year before

I remember Burrow standing on the bench facing the crowd and yelling 'this is my fricking house' and throwing up Ls and thinking 'This dude is different'.

the hit

I truly believe him taking that nuclear hit in that game is what flipped a switch somewhere deep inside him and turned him into the champion he is today. When he got up off the turf after that hit he was a different human being.

My first thought was to buy eight tickets to the Texas game and book flights for my family and me.

Whoops! I was thinking the first game of the year against Georgia Southern.

I didn’t think much about that UCF bowl game because they were completely outmatched. It did show that Burrow had cojones.

I normally taking Nothing from cupcake games - good or bad - but we played someone in the season opener in 2019… maybe Georgia southern or texas state or someone like that …and after that game I texted a Texas friend and said “this LSU offense is different”

Anyone who actually says this is lying. Sure we were all super optimistic, but no one could’ve predicted what he came out and did.

I didn't think he would throw for what he did in 19, but I have evidence of my posts here in the 2019 off-season being very high on Burrow.

LINK

My prediction was

quote:

270/400 - 3700 yds - 28 TD - 6 INT
100 Carries - 550 yds - 6 TD

I looked up one of my other posts immediately after the UCF game

quote:

Typically I like to temper my expectations, but I just can't this year. This team is going to be absolutely loaded headed into 2019. The defense, even with White's departure, may be even better. If White returns we may very well have 3 of the top 10 defensive players in the nation all on the field at the same time.

The offense will only improve. Burrow will be given an entire off-season to develop chemistry with a lot of really talented receivers. He will have better pass protection, as well as a very strong ground game on which to lean.

2019 looks VERY promising.

I thought Texas a&m 7 OT game was a turning point for Burrow. He started running the ball more to pick up first downs , gained a lot of confidence, and looked like he just took the whole offense on his shoulders after that. Need the same from Nuss.

The Georgia fans took over Tiger Stadium. I remember it was a 230 kick off LSU defensively dominated less some meat on the bone but still one by multiple scores. There was a moment when Burrow stood up on the bench and said . “This is my effing house”

That was a highlight of 2018 for sure. Also the season opener when Burrow came in and started against Miami. There was a pregame scuffle and lo and behold. Joe was right in the middle of all of it. That’s a moment I knew wow this guy is no Brandon Harris talent or no talent. He’s got some fight.
