How much of Wood’s no hitter had to do with the opponent?

I am not saying the kid can’t pitch. He was lights out and never slowed down.
I am just saying, could a better batting team have hit on him?

Woods is a FB pitcher.

I like LSU against FB pitchers

I mean, Murray State has been raking for much of the NCAA tournament. They have some good hitters. Are they on par with the rest of the field, probably not. But, they were here for a reason.

You think Wood throws on Wed or Thursday after throwing nearly 120 pitches on Monday…..no way for Wed if he throws Thursday it won’t be for long

You’re talking about a team in Omaha. It’s not like he no-hit some mid-week directional school.

Okay… there’s no scenario LSU sees Wood.

A lot. Murray State is one of, if not the worst team, to ever make it to Omaha.

That's true...but they also looked pretty overwhelmed by the velocity of the FB. I ask, because I don't know, how often did they see a FB like that this year?

That's the difference between SEC hitters. They would have caught up to that fastball the 2nd time through the order. In LSU's case they never had to catch up. Wood was still blowing Murray St hitters away with the fastball until the very last pitch. Absolutely had to do with the opponent

I'll give him credit for it, but it was the match up. That was the only team in Omaha that he no-hits.

Was the reason that they came from inferior conference?

They were the biggest fish in a small pond that got on a hot streak that came to a screeching halt in Omaha

That isn’t what OP asked nor what I was implying.

OP asked if the team made a difference.

I’m saying it does, and he would not have had the same level of success against a team that has lots of practice against upper 90s fastballs

a better hitting team or a worse hitting team could've gotten a hit. Just bc he threw a no hitter yesterday against Murray St. doesn't mean MS can't hit or that no other team could have hit him either.

Just give the kid his due. It was only the 3rd no-hitter in CWS history and only one HBP from a perfect game. No doubt the best game of his life but he earned it. Don't try to tarnish his accomplishment.

Murray State got 9 hits in 18 innings in Omaha.

They faced Ole Miss in their regional, not sure if it was the consistent velocity that Wood was whipping out there.

A little, but not alot. A good hitting team may get a couple hits, but he was dealing regardless and is a potential 1st rounder. He was striking out almost 2 per inning before that game, coming back from injury
