AirBNB Advice

Here’s the rundown: I booked an AirBNB. Our flights were delayed so did not get in until 3am. I got there and it was not as advertised. The ceiling was caving in and the ac did not work. It was a shared apartment complex which was not as advertised. Decided to stay as it was late. Next day, decided we could not deal with it any longer and moved to a hotel. I called AirBNB and they said since I didn’t document the ac not working and noise that they could only give me a 10% refund. I’m fine with paying the night I was there but how am I supposed to document air temperature? Has anyone ever dealt with something like this?

Just blast them on the review and move on.

As an airbnb host, here's what our "cultured" airbnb guests do when they're not happy: go find some ants, dirt from outside. Scatter around the airbnb. Take pictures, refuse to stay. And then airbnb will give you a full refund and frick the host.
Basically how they get free food at taco bell when they find a hair in the burrito.

Man that sucks...
That said, I can appreciate people wanting to save money/have another income stream, but I just cannot do Air BNB, and deal w/ shite like this scenario.

good Lord. As the host you have the ability to decline a reservation request right? I'm not saying to go full on 100% in that direction, but man if I was in your shoes it'd sure be tempting to try to weed out that kind of renter.
Iv'e rented using ABNB hundreds of times going back over a decade and have only had one bad experience, but boy it was a doozy. Last year in Austin. Almost incomprehensible but Air BNB support to their credit did me right in the end and refunded everythign owed so that was nice.

I've gotten a number of AirBnB over the years but think I'm done.
Last summer rented cabin 100% because it had a hot tub. Hot tub was broken. a-hole owner unavailable in another state offered 10% discount.
Then, an apartment in Montreal with no key to the balcony door deadbolt when the cool balcony was 50% of their advertising photos.

Yes, it is why I hate Airbnb. I stayed in a place that was listed as a home but was in an apartment complex. I advertised asking for a bed but was full and was told that I could pull the couch/bed by it to make it a king. They also said they were within walking distance to Minute Maid Park, which was true if I wanted to walk 5.2 miles. I contacted Airbnb, and they told me to work with the owner; it escalated, and Airbnb sided with the owner.

And they want you to clean the apt before you leave: take out trash, remove linens from bed, clean dishes, basically leave everything as you found it - and then charge you a ridiculous cleaning fee. I rarely select an Airbnb over a hotel anymore.

Do a credit card dispute and see what happens. Worst case scenario you're in the same boat your already in.
I always do vrbo, but really have to be selective.

This is really your only recourse. Yall gotta read reviews before you book your place. If this really was the case, someone definitely mentioned it in a review

Yeah I won't book an airbnb that doesn't have a ton of reviews and I read every single one of them to see if there is a pattern. Also, most of the time you can use context clues to figure out the exact address and search it on google earth/zillow to at least get a view of the exterior.
