My question is, why Africa? Can someone explain this to me?

I don't mind this especially if it helps keep more Africans in Africa

I am sure 200 billion will do wonders for them, it will all be managed wisely and not completely pocketed by warlords and turn already worthless currency into toilet paper

Africa will still screw it up...

I will never understand why 10% of the global population is always responsible for the other 90%.

Trillions have been wasted in Africa with nothing to show for it. Probably hundreds of trillions in today’s money. Whats another couple billion.
It’s his money. Let him burn it.

It's the ultimate white guilt move now that they are murdering whites in South Africa too.

He could have solved the homeless problems in America with that.
But here the politicians would steal all the money

He can do what he wants with his money but that's a serious waste of resources. It's funny the lies liberals have to tell themselves.

With that much money available, I'm not sure that Americans of African Ancestry won't find it profitable to remigrate to help the locals spend the Gates fortune.

One thing I do not understand about Africa.
There is a missionary organization that gets donations from churches all over and what they do is go to Africa and they dig wells for villages through out the continent.
Why? Why don't villages have wells already? Why does an outside organization have to do it? These villages have been there for hundreds of years. Why didn't they dig their own wells?
It's not new information that people can dig a well and get water. So, why have they not done so 100, 200, a 1000 years ago?
I can't wrap my head around this.

I'm trying to be optimistic here so don't kill me:
He sees it as a place where his investments can make a great difference in saving future generations. Whether that is through clean water, medical supplies, building / updating infrastructure or generally stabilizing nations that need that little extra boost to get them over the hump. That's my sunshine pumping spin on why he's doing it.
Or he could just feel like buying a Nobel Peace Prize while throwing his money away as has been done for generations because most of the sub-Saharan nations have so many problems that they aren't fixable. Or maybe African farmland is really really cheap.

I don't know what caused the guilt that he is trying to rub salve into.
