Now its official Putin skips peace talks in Istanbul....the one's he himself proposed -

STANBUL (Reuters) -Russian President Vladimir Putin sent aides and deputy ministers to hold peace talks with Ukraine in Turkey on Thursday, spurning Kyiv's challenge to go there in person to meet President Volodymyr Zelenskiy.
Putin on Sunday proposed direct negotiations with Ukraine in Istanbul and Zelenskiy had said he would be waiting for the Kremlin leader.

No kidding.
I dont understand the obsession with "Putin has to meet him face to face" nonsense.
He doesnt. Russia keeps the land they have reclaimed, there is no NATO for ukraine, and the fighting stops.
The further nonsense about a peace force to protect ukraine. Why is it the world's responsibility to protect ukraine? If he wants protection tell him to fight like a man for what he wants to defend instead of crying like a child.
Or it continues til he has no country. Its pretty simple.
Unfortunately because of that latest tranche of cash approved before biden left, we will continue to supply weapons for several months since they were not manufactured yet.
Course we could cut of satellite tech and remove our personnel so they could not target anymore.

There has to be some mechanism to prevent any peace deal from becoming just a pause and hostilities starting again in a few years once Russia consolidates and reorginizes in lost military eq/manpower.

Putin’s death is the only mechanism. Chances are that whoever comes after him won’t have the same delusions.

Noble, but its not our problem.
I do like the ones who evoke, "well we are draining Russia so they will no longer be a threat". We tried that tactic with Germany after WW1....that turned out great, only this time the country has enough nukes to destroy us all.

Putin didn’t think that Ukraine would show up. Now Putin looks like the problem that he is.

Exactly.
Putin isn't going be seen going there for Z to act and arse and then waffle/abandon any agreement that results from a "face to face".
He saw what happened with Trump/Vance and Z and knows it would be 10x worse. Not a look he needs domestically.
