For other PT Catholics on new Pope? All things considered… win, loss, or even?

Sarah and Erdo were pipe dreams. Pizzaballa could have been a really good Pope, but was also probably a long shot.

Francis pretty much stacked the deck against getting anyone decent. I think Leo is about a 5.5 out of 10 all things considered. But time will tell. Leo definitely has some issues that need to come to light.

My view, is the Church is in God’s hands and he will use it fulfill his will. The interesting thing about Francis’ papacy, is the amount of interest from new converts and lapsed Catholics into Liturgy, doctrine, and the TLM grew significantly despite the crackdown from the Vatican.

The optics look pretty bad for traditional Catholics. We will have to wait and see.

It’s a win if he drives re-engagement with the Catholic Church in the United States.

I want major reform/cleanup, but I know I won’t get it in my lifetime.

I’ll settle for a re-energized Catholic community doing goods things here. I think we could use more of that.

If the Pope is listening… men are the ones you need to call home again. Get them back on the train and let them lead.

I’ve read up on him and he seems to be pretty in line with mainline Catholic teachings. Leans more liberal on stuff where he will have no control like immigration and climate change. Is conservative on things that he can control like how the church deals with homosexuality and trans issues, women in the clergy, etc.

If all that holds to form, I’m good with it. Either way, I’ll pray for him.

A solid 7.

History of being strongly pro-life. Knows how to do the TLM, but not insistent on it (which is kind of where I am), so we're not likely to have major liturgy wars. He is unlikely to speak off the cuff in ways that sow confusion.

Will be critical of the Trump admin beyond reason, IMHO.

Just a guess. I'll be praying for him.

Pizzaballa is only 60. I really think he gets it eventually. But Leo is pretty young, and evidently in very good health. He will be around a long time.

I like what I read for the most part. He is very Francis-like with regard to caring for the poor and migrants, etc, but it is unrealistic to expect a Pope not to have those views. I do know that he has said some stuff to suggest that he is opposed to blessing homosexual unions. He also appears to be open to the Latin mass (big for me). And the fact that he is American is icing on the cake. I look forward to watching him and am excited.

Definite loss big time. Since international news is already reporting his harse criticism of a highly popular sitting American President, I wonder if anyone can find any criticism of any communist country. I doubt it.
That's all I need to know. Another South American marxist, maybe it will have an effect of bringing people closer to God through the suffering of the Church.

You can't really expect otherwise. Christianity sees everyone as children of God first, as opposed to citizens of an earthly kingdom.

I'm disappointed with the pick. It could have been worse.

True. But he's gotta be better than Francis. U.S. Catholics donated far less to the church during Francis and that's a big reason they picked an American.

This why I struggle to re-engage with the Catholic Church.

It looks like a slight net improvement from what we had.

But not all that exciting overall.

Raised a Catholic and my thinking is that ‘trying’to live by the 10 commandments can’t help but make me fundamentally a better person. I go to my small church with rarely 100 people at a mass, donate enough to pay for my keep and help out when I can. I’m pro the religion but not the institution so who the Pope is or what he says about anything makes zero difference to me. He’s just a man, probably a better man than me in some respects but just a man nonetheless

As a Catholic, I fear what this pope will do to America and the influence he will have on the country.

It’s a political selection, and his politics are destructive to my values.

I agree with him being an improvement. As others have mentioned I think people take the politics of a pope way too far. Especially with regards to immigration, someone that high up is never going to bad talk the poor immigrants. You have to remember these people really aren’t MAGA or sky screaming liberals. They have their own beliefs from a point of view that all of us don’t fully understand.

Also notice how no liberals talks about pro life. One of the biggest topics. They only talk about the one little talking point that fits their narrative.

All you have to do is read and listen to this guy’s words to know he is bad news. But a lot of dummies here will throw their money at the church and turn a blind eye and ear because he’s an American pope.

In that sense, this is a brilliant move for the church and the globalist movement behind it.

The Catholic Church has been a huge facilitator of illegal immigration into the US.
