He did make a thirty minute long visit to one of Rome's two prisons. He passed out rosary beads and copies of the gospel

Good. May those men find God and atone for their sins

I don’t think the pope could honestly get down and wash someone’s feet in his current condition.

Imagine Jesus using a wheelchair as an excuse.

I wonder if the Leo’s washed their feet when they were negotiating with Atilla the Hun or organizing defenses.

I always thought that was a weird tradition anyway. Sounds like he did something instead that may have actually done some good in the world..

Jesus washed the disciples' feet. It's not tradition.

That’s why there’s only 1 lol. Got a lot of Catholics on this site who think they know better than the pope.

Did he invite any foreigners to seek sanctuary inside the walls of Vatican City?

Flip your Bible to the book of John, chapter 13.

Jesus washes the feet of his disciples during the Last Supper. This act is presented as an example of humility and servitude for Christians to emulate.

Additionally, the books of Luke and Timothy also mention foot washing in the context of hospitality and service.

Jesus was doing a practical task that, while it was symbolic, actually had to be done because they had been outside in sandals on dusty roads all day. Since they seated on the floor to eat, their feet were very close to each other and the food.

A modern example would be akin to taking the role of house maid before someone has you over as the guest of honor. You as the guest of honor show up early and deep clean their house before the rest of the guests arrive. It’s practical, but humbling to have the guest of honor taking role of a servant.

He didn’t look very spry riding his Pope Edition Hoveround on the news yesterday.

He’ll be in purgatory by Labor Day IMO.
