Most Overrated Movies of All Time

#1 on my list is “Inception”. The concept is not nearly as clever and interesting as a lot of people think it is. I can’t watch more than 10 minutes of it without getting bored and thinking about something else besides the movie while I stare at the screen.
I’ll never understand why so many people are fans of such a boring, shite movie. The concept of a dream within a dream within a dream is really not that cool or captivating. After a while it’s like “ok we get it already”.
What y’all got?

Weird hill to choose to die on but at least you’re dead.
For me the obvious answer is Avatar.
shite story. Mediocre acting.
But damned if it wasn’t pretty, with great cinematography that was possibly the best application of 3D tech ever.

Idk if it's my most overrated, but it's put me to sleep all 3 times I've tried to watch it. I still haven't seen the entire movie. Probably never will.

Dog Day Afternoon with Pacino. God I hate that movie.

Five Easy Pieces. I thought it was dull, and every character was unlikeable.

Any movie that insists upon itself, but still has an Oscar.

Everyone saw it but it still made minimal impact on the culture like Star Wars or say the MCU. No one cares about the blue monkey-cat people.
It’s just Pocahontas in space.

Mary Poppins
I tried watching it twice, about 50 years apart, fell asleep both times.

Forrest Gump & The Titanic are the first two that came to mind.

Watched both. Can’t rewatch either of them.

The Godfather. Marlon Brando is like a cartoon character, Pacino crosses his leg and just sits there, somehow white James Caan is supposed to be super Italian, and Diane Keaton is the least fetching leading lady I've ever seen. The sound is terrible and the actual picture is so bad I can't tell if it's night day Christmas or July 4th

Saw it once, thought it was fine. Haven't thought about it since and never occurred to me to watch it again.

You're completely right about the movie being mediocre as hell, however I never really hear anyone claim otherwise.

When I saw it in the theater i thought it was a really great movie. On subsequent watches, it became more meh.
Great soundtrack, though.

I tried watching it. Could not finish it.

I’m going to join the OP on death hill and say The Dark Knight. For the young ‘uns here, it’s impossible to describe the level of fanboy that occurred on this board that summer. It’s a very flawed movie that I still watch sometimes when it comes on.

No Country For Old Men.
It’s enjoyable and a good watch but I don’t see how it’s that much better than any other Neo Western/ Narcos type movie. Tommy Lee Jones dramatically rambling almost incoherently about random shite doesn’t make something a masterpiece.

Yep. Had Heath Ledger not died before it’s release I don’t think it gathers nearly the mystique that it has surrounding it.
