Let me get this straight, the main reason we are doing this is to bring more jobs to US?

Why do we need more jobs when we have the lowest unemployment rate in the world and just had an absolute stellar jobs report? The government now wants our country to just work hard instead of smart? Help me understand. Those are very low paying jobs. The only people who will want those jobs he’s deporting left and right. Right now all that’s happening is money is going out of Americans pockets and going straight into the federal government.

Look, you’re asking questions. That is good.
You have no idea what you’re talking about.
One day you’ll understand.

Uncouple ourselves from China. If China goes unchecked, they will kick our arse within 25 years without firing a bullet.
If that means higher prices for your plastic Chinese trinkets, then oh well.

I’m waiting….all I hear is crickets.

Keep in mind he's not doing this because of current conditions. He's doing it because he says he's held these views for 30 years and in Trump 1, people like Gary Cohn were around to stop him, but in Trump 2, they're not. So we get this. From Trump 1:

Cush job
I work inside and outside.
Freezing Temps and sweltering.
Next to boilers and reboilers and on top of distillation towers and turbines.
Under fresh air and goggles and in admin buildings at meeting room tables...
I'd rather have all the work than none of it.

Job participation is down. It's the lowest since 1975. Job participation peaked in 2000. If we can get job participation up to pre COVID levels, that would be huge. That's only and increase in the total workforce of 1%. The U.S. needs more people working and less people taking from the federal government.

The "millions and millions" of Mexicans Trump promised to deport but won't deport will want those jobs. On the low end, there's 11 million of them. They're not going anywhere.

There are over 460k manufacturing jobs open today.
This is in addition to the trades that have a huge demand for labor.
People who need these jobs have plenty of opportunities

Then cut welfare
No trade war necessary

I'm not convinced on the utility of the current tariff strategy, but you're also not considering that we could replace existing, less useful jobs with new, more useful jobs.

unemployment rate leaves out a bunch of people who haven't looked for work in a while

You still can’t answer me can you? Hilarious. And to the guy that posted before that, I’m glad this is all happening just because of something Trump feel strongly about…. Instead of thinking about all the carnage it’s going to cause.

If you are referring to tariffs, I believe the answer is to make the world reduce their tariffs on US goods.
We are still a capitalist society, if it makes sense for us to produce a product, we’ll do it. If not, we’ll buy it from somewhere else.
It’s the artificial restraint of trade that is slowly choking us out of making anything in the US that is the problem.
