Have you ever watched a show that took itself so seriously that it ended up being funny?

Have you ever watched a TV show that took itself so seriously that it ended up being funny? A type of show where you’ve said to yourself “I wish all the characters on this would die or fail miserably.”? (Other than the useless Reality shows.)

The ones I can think of are The Morning Show and Handmaid’s Tale.

Every character on The Morning Show has a holier than thou attitude and takes themselves way too seriously. You can’t help but root for them all to fail miserably.

Every Character in Handmaid’s Tale is either revolting and needs to die or the biggest idiots and make some of the dumbest decisions I’ve seen on TV.

The Newsroom.

ETA: You have to add the Coldplay song yourself

Whale Wars. The fact that anyone ever took them seriously is still hilarious to me.

Not sure if this qualifies, but I have started to rewatch Beverly Hills 90210. It is a straight up comedy to me now. I laugh a good bit especially at the early episodes.

Brandon is a straight up pretentious douche. The list is to long to list of how much of a douche he is. I watched one last night where he gets caught up in sports gambling with a bookie named "Duke"

Dylan is a blowhard.

Kelly has been raped, set on fire, shot, joined a cult, etc..

Andrea is 47 in high school and all worried about being editor in chief of the damn high school newspaper. Then gets smoked by a car

David thinks he is Vanilla Ice

Steve was kind of cool, he just wanted to drink and chase chicks early on.

One of the few shows that we started and didn’t finish. It started off great but real world events and the extreme overreactions ruined it for me.

Exactly. The first few seasons were ok. But Season 3 was so bad we couldn’t finish it. They all came across as pretentious douchebags with how they handled the COVID story line.

I stop watching cheesy or over the top shows immediately. There's just too much good content out there these days to waste your time. Reacher was the exception I made...until I got to Season 2.

I watched all 3 seasons. The show got ridiculously formulaic. Every ~2 episodes Aniston and Reese would be besties and hugging and crying then insert something happens and they argue and yell at each other. They go their separate ways and ignore each other then insert something happens and they make up and hug and Aniston gets some extra crying time and they are besties again. Rinse, repeat.

I won’t be watching S4.

I just can't believe that show would protect the people that bombed Japan

The biggest problem with Reacher is that Alan Ritchson is possibly the worst actor in the world. He makes Keanu Reeves look like Daniel Day Lewis.

ETA: it's hilarious people on here think Ritchson is anything other than a horrible actor.

I'm a fan of the books so I'm sticking with it for now. I will say season three has been far better than season two. But Still not near as good as season 1

Another good example is Dawson’s Creek. You couldn’t help but laugh at most of the characters.

I hadn’t really thought about it, but early-mid 90’s Teen dramas were extremely campy, over the top and took themselves way too seriously.

He was a douche. Always had to be voice of reason and know better than everyone his own age. I bet Brenda hated him.

I have one on in the background in my office and a black family moved into the area. Brandon is all about the cause and yelling at Jim for putting in a security system in at their house. You know probably a normal thing people do with a nice house.

Steve said Brandon might have "Jungle Fever" hahaha.
