Just fyi. Tigerdroppings might be large enough to be a party in this corrupt scheme: be on the lookout for posts arguing against Soda snap reform

Soadees are garbage

I’ve just about completely lost my taste for them.

Our very own "John Barron" is among them.

IMPORTANT: We can not allow 'Make America Healthy Again' messaging to be used to force needy Americans into not buying certain things.

Some officials in D.C. are working on trying to prevent Americans on SNAP from using those benefits to purchase *any* soda.

Remember when New York City Democrats tried to prevent people from buying and consuming soda? It backfired big time.

President Trump literally has a Diet Coke button in his Oval Office.

Let people think and decide for themselves. Anyone can consume soda and be perfectly fine, in moderation. Unless we are just going to ban every food with sugar in it for SNAP Americans? ?????

What an idiot.

I do worry that Republicans will lose a lot of fat voters which unfortunately make up a far to large portion of our population.

Killing food stamp soda and candy seems like a no brainer until it's election time

I mean... this is expected right? They're not going to roll over and happily say bye to $5B in sales right?

I don't care for the use of SNAP to pay for soda.. even though I drink Coke Zero like nobody's business. But, I'm not gonna get too bent out of shape over spending on soda versus other spending on luxury foods.

But the companies are just practicing self preservation. That should be expected really.

Anyone who opposes this is an idiot and wants/supports the obesity epidemic.

Americans should be allowed to purchase whatever they want with their own hard earned money.

If you are receiving welfare/SNAP benefits, you are surviving off the back of society without performing a function.

Society should then be permitted to limit or restrict what you use that money on.

Everything should have a cost.

They already can, and they can pay for it out their own money.

If I’m buying though, I want a say in what’s being purchased.

My guess is that plenty of politicians on both sides will be against this when these conglomerates start throwing coin their way. America jumped the shark long ago, just sit back and watch the lulz. I don’t want to live in a world where the poorest and fattest don’t have access to 30 pack cubes of Mountain Dew.

You want a coke, fine, but buy it with your own money, not taxpayer money provided to you to make food ends meet.

I would argue SNAP shouldn’t even cover bottled water either.

While I don't think fat fricks should be getting cases of Coke on the taxpayers dime, what I really find comical is how a Trump centered influencer will go against his man for a thousand dollars.

Shameless grifters they are.

Like most welfare programs this gets abused while benefiting wealthy non-recipients of the welfare. Section 8 gives landlords a cash cow and ability to minimize upkeep of apartments or houses.

Welfare should be focused on getting the people off welfare. Better health is a part of that. It’s not the recipients money, so it’s perfectly fine to put standards or limits on what they can buy with it. They should also be working to better their lives including finding better job, improving education, improving health, and using birth control and other contraceptions including the snip to not increase family size until off welfare. Shouldn’t reward anyone for bringing a child into an existing welfare situation.

This is where I land. SNAP can't be used on other vices like alcohol or tobacco, so I don't see why they can be used on sodas.

I've already heard the argument that wanting a Coke every once in a while is not the same, and this is government overreach, but let's be honest. Most SNAP recipients are filling up the basket at Walmart with 4 or 5 12-packs of assorted sodas. If they weren't, Coke wouldn't be so eager to fight this.
