Johnny Marr took one look at the proposal to reunite the Smiths and thought, respectfully, the more enticing option would be getting hit by a double decker bus. That’s according to Morrissey himself, who — likely encouraged to say something due to the Gallagher brothers’s biblical truce for an Oasis reunion — wrote on his website that the duo were presented with a “lucrative offer” to tour worldwide as the Smiths in 2025. “Morrissey said yes to the offer, Marr ignored the offer,” the bitchy statement reads. “Morrissey undertakes a largely sold out tour of the USA in November. Marr continues to tour as a special guest to New Order.”

Marr previously admitted that he had interest in a reunion tour and it was a “very real prospect” in the late 2000s, but the duo harbored a more acrimonious relationship in the ensuing years with the guitarist now admitting personal and political differences pushed them apart as friends.

They must be two insufferable pricks.

How long is the Oasis tour supposed to last? Over 2 months and I’m skeptical.

I saw them on The Queen is Dead tour. A friend of mine who was standing in the ticket line ended up leaving because his buddy changed his mind and really wanted to see a college basketball game instead. I plead with them to stay, citing that he would be witnessing history, but his mate was driving so he had no choice. Today, I betcha neither of them could remember the final score of that game.

This is kinda of embarrassing on the heels of Oasis reunion.
Do it cause you want to play music again assuming that’s what Oasis is doing it for not just money.
The Smiths could only last 5 years as a band. They had better careers apart.

pussy

i have really good friends who couldn't be more opposite than me politically but we still hang out and have a great time.

such a petty reason for not 'getting the band back together'.

I have no doubt this is how a possible Smiths reunion tour went down:

Morrissey: Hey Johnny, how you been chap ? I was thinking, let's get the band back together and tour in 2025.
Marr: WTF are you talking about Steven, did you already forget that Andy passed away last year ?
Morrissey: No, not at all, we could do a tribute honoring Andy as he would approve of us making amends and touring.
Marr: Wow, can't believe what I'm hearing ... actually I can believe it based on the source.
Morrissey: Really Johnny? Lots of money can be made as the Smiths would sell out stadiums worldwide. You could make millions and be set for life.
Marr: Yeah OK, Just how much money are we talking about and pay distribution?
Morrissey: Well, since I'm the Smiths frontman and lyricist, I was thinking 75% for me, and 25% split amongst the other band members.
Marr: Bwahahahaha.... typical narcissist Morrissey. Keep being you and don't call me again ....CLICK

Morrissey to the public: "I approached Johnny amicably gauging his interest in a Smith's reunion tour. Sadly, he didn't want anything to do with it and hung up in my face. I'm truly sorry for our fans who deserve more and have been patiently waiting for this to happen. "

There's a pretty big difference between hanging out with someone and going on a tour together.

It also usually seems like when you hear this, at least one of them is insufferable about it. The statement quoted above sure makes it seem like this applies to Morrissey.

What are their political differences? I know Morrissey is a big animal rights guy, but isn't he very pro-British and not too keen on the UK's Migrant Problem?

That’s exactly how it went down but more like 90/10.

It’s very ironic that the majority of who in the 80’s, 90’s, & early 00’s were Moz die hard fans now suddenly hate his guts because he supports Brexit, supports keeping Britain English, & is not for unfettered immigration pushed by the EU. Moz is a based gay man & it drives them insane. But musically, i’m pretty sure he is tough to deal with in a band.

Ironic in what way? What's ironic is Smith songs rail against oppressive British society and now he seems to embrace what he once hated.

What oppression is he embracing? Not letting in millions of migrants? That's not oppressive.

Their careers may have been better apart but neither has had a song that would even crack the top 20 greatest The Smiths songs. Together, they were musical magic.
