I know fans are fans but the writing has been on the wall since the moment Payton left.

I disagree that you needed to tear it down when Brees retired. That was still a decent team.

But the second you hired a certified loser in Allen, it was over.

Loomis has doubled down on stupid twice now. And then went all in by allowing the worst coach in the NFL to pick a high priced mediocre QB.

But my favorite is that he goes even further by restructuring Carr to cripple the team for three more years.

Worst coach
Worst OL
Worst Offense
Worst GM

The Saints were top 10 in total defense and top 5 in scoring defense in 2021...led by Allen. The team was en route to a 5-2 start when Winston was lost for the year on Halloween. If Winston doesn't get hurt, the Saints likely win 11+ games, and probably the division, since they owned Tampa that season. Does that mean the Saints were a Super Bowl team? Probably not. But it's entirely likely Payton doesn't leave after that season if the Saints are coming off a NFC South championship and playoff appearance.

But even if he had, I understand why the FO chose to promote Allen. The great defense still carried that team to a winning record (9-8) with absolutely NOTHING at QB. The thought was the defense is in place and but for bad luck at QB in 2021, the team was set to be an annual playoff contender. So there was a reasonable rationale in not blowing the whole staff up after Payton's retirement.

I'm not saying Allen is great. But he's generally not making the draft picks and selecting personnel. The FO has final authority on that...and they haven't been very good. I doubt Allen chose to take a Center is back to back drafts with the team's first pick. Loomis ultimately signed off on taking a injury prone fringe 1st round DE from a "smaller" program (Turner) when you already had one of those not working out on the roster. Loomis was the one who, again, got fleeced by Philadelphia and traded future high picks to get a guard no one really knew about until the Senior Bowl. And even if Allen pushed for Carr, Loomis as GM and de facto co-owner, had the authority to say no...Yet, he didn't.

Again, I'm not saying Allen is great, but this is more on Loomis

How many more years we have of being this high over the cap? As long as these numbers are the same and it doesn't get fixed, this franchise will go nowhere.

Anytime anyone says “are” instead of “our” people are gonna ignore that person.

I can guarantee he did not do that, because those picks happened in 2019 & 2020 when Payton was still the HC. Allen took over as HC in 2022 and his 1st round picks so far have been Olave, Penning, Bresee & Fuaga. Obvious bust in Penning, Olave looks like he'll be a solid WR, but probably will not live up to his 11th overall pick status. Bresee showed signs of being solid 1st, but it's still early. And Fuaga has apparently been great in the offseason, just have to see how that transitions.

I am not knighting for DA, I am not trying to use this as evidence that he should still be the HC, but if he ends up hitting on 3 of 4 (or 2 depending on Olave stance), that's actually a pretty good hit rate (obviously in a limited window)

Edit: FYI, his 1st rounder draft picks in Oak were DJ Hayden & Khalil Mack. It would appear his 1st round pick history is nowhere near as bad as Payton's.

Do you realize you can add a shite defense to that list if you get rid of DA?

That right there shows you why Payton retired. He even said it himself in an interview that the reason he left was because of the way the front office (Mickey) kept interfering with the team and he wasn't able to make the decision he needed to make.

I agree with you 100%. The 2021 team was damn good IMO and we caught some really shitty breaks with Jameis getting hurt and those 2 BS games against Buffalo and Miami where Chairman Goodell made half the team sit for covid protocol. Even despite all these things we still could have made the playoffs if we hadn't blown leads to the god awful Giants and/or Falcons at home. I think because of this the FO treated the season like a wash and promoted Allen for continuity, but now it has become obvious that this was a terrible choice but Mickey and co. are too prideful to admit that.

You didn't need to tear ot down when Brees retired. You needed to draft his replacement but passing on possible qbs over and over again is what got us to this. I'll never see another new orleans super bowl again.

The Chris Olave trade was the beginning of the end.

Was it? Or was the penning part of it.

I'm pretty sure you could have still gotten olave from Washington instead of fleeced by Philly

great teams know when to walk away from an aging superstar. Drew Brees strong armed the team to feed his ego

Should have walked away from Brees after getting bounced by the seahawks in 13

Of course it is. And WHY is Loomis not a great Football Player Personnel Guru like, say, Bill Parcells? Because Loomis is and always has been a Bean Counter, not a true "Football-Guy General Manager".

Cut ties with Brees at 34 (his age in 2013) with no replacement or draft capital to select a franchise QB?

I’m all in on Allen and Loomis suck, but those Saints squads were very talented and OL was among tops in the league.

It was far too early then to restructure, problem is we still think there’s an open window to the SB and we spend and trade away draft capital accordingly.

When you miss on top 3 picks as regularly as we do, you get disasters. Here we are.

Yea let’s walk away from one of the greatest qbs ever in his prime because the defense couldn’t stop anyone that day. Gave up what over 40?

Brilliant idea.

Guess it’s Bree’s fault he got us the lead n the Minny game with less than a minute left. Shoukd have sent him packing then.

This might be one of the most idiotic things I’ve seen posted on here and then 5 people upvoted it lol.
