China just won gold in table tennis

huh? we still have M and W BB, W Soccer, some track events, some wrestling....
barring some monumental upsets, we should win, at minimum, 5 more gold medals... M and W BB, W Soccer, M and W 4x100
and there are others that we have a good shot at like W Volleyball, some of the wrestling matches, and may pull a surprise in another of the track events, like M 400m hurdles or something

China still has a bunch on the board too, mainly because there are like 700,000 different medal events for the events they are good at.
Credit to them though, for emphasizing those events in their training, etc. Hopefully we make some effort to compete in those type of things, because it seems like each cycle, more and more minor sports are added that we seem to pretend don't exist. Will make it harder and harder to top the medal table going forward.

I think we also win the M/W 4x400 ( Botswana looked really good in the heat but they had their A team)

Honestly I’d rather lose the gold medal count than put tax payer money into diving.

But in their case....not sure what I was looking at. I googled Women's Olympic Golf and didn't read the event ...but Rose or Nelly still have shots

I don't disagree. Just pointing out that if we want to stay at the top of the table for gold medals consistently, we'll have to pay attention to them at some point.
It should improve for 2028 either way, as being the host always makes it easier to drive interest and funding for the smaller events, plus the host getting athletes into those things more easily naturally leads to upsets and higher medal potential.

They are in the gold medal game in field hockey and two gold medal matches in boxing, and that is just today. There is also more ping pong and boxing for them tomorrow, in addition to the events you listed.
