it will be 13 years this month since the great HP Touchpad thread.

Boy, that was fun.
Back then, HP made a tablet, the Touchpad, that was the equivalent of the iPad 2. Hardware was great. Thanks to Cyanogen (sp?), it could be ported to Android.
HP decided to suddenly discontinue them and dumped them at $99. Many posters tried to order online but as you can imagine, websites such as HP and Office Depot were very busy so almost everyone struck out .
But then a month or so later, those who ordered through Amazon but had their orders cancelled, got a surprise email from Amazon. It had a batch of them but I think you had to respond within 48 hours or so. Needless to say, the rush was on. Think mine is still in the closet where I keep old computers.

A lot less problems for sure when compared to their counterparts.

I have a black one that still works. I use it occasionally to play a couple of no longer available games.

That was a great tablet for what it was and unbeatable price at the time

I drove a hour to wait in line at the Lafayette bestbuy and shook hands with the poster that later get arrested for being a Pedo

I have two. They still work... at least as of a couple months ago when I last charged them up. The batteries are a little degraded, so it takes time for them to power up enough to even turn on and they don't stay charged as long as they used to, but they run fine.
Last couple years, when I fire them up, I keep thinking I should convert them to Android or some other Linux flavor so I can maybe use them as an e reader. (The hp app store for them is defunct and while the devices run fine, the web browser is decrepit and won't render most websites.) In the end, though, all I end up doing is playing Angry Birds for about 30 minutes, then turning them off and forgetting about them for another 6 months or so. Rinse & repeat.
