Taking the family in mid-July for 6 days, 7 nights. Staying in the 7th arrondisement, a couple blocks across the Seine from the Louve. Never been to Europe before. The Olympics in Paris start a week after we get home.

Any last minute tips or recommendations? We haven't over-scheduled the trip so still some flexibility.

Planning to use Uber to get around rather than wrangle family through the Metro - anybody have experience with Uber in Paris?

Any must-sees other than the usual (Louvre, Eifflel, Versaille, etc.)?

Any restaurant recommendations? Open to fancy/expensive and authentic cafe's.

It’s been a few years, but Uber worked well for me over there.

For museums, put the D’ Orsay at the top of the list.

Get the city mapper app. Will show you routes via Metro, buses, walking, scooters, all sorts of stuff.

Be careful on crowded tourist streets and keep an eye on your wallet/phone. Little kids will pick pocket you easily. They mostly go after the large swaths on Chinese tourists though.

Make as many reservations as possible for things you want to see. Expect road closures and logistic challenges with last minute prep for the Olympics.

Use the metro and wlak as much as possible. Uber when you need to and the first two aren't logical but I don't suggest making it your first choice. It's going to be a costly mistake.

Sainte Chappelle is pretty impressive and not to be missed since Notre Dame nearby is likely still closed.

Depending on how far you want to go, the city is very walkable. We had a 3 year old and a 7 year old when we were there in 2019. Had a stroller for the 3 year old and the 7 year old walked with us, but we only got in the Metro twice I think. Up to Montmarte and back. Walked and took the boat taxi the rest of the time.

There's also a boat taxi that basically does a loop on the Seine - it goes from the Botanical Gardens(Jardin de Plantes) to the Eiffel Tower with several stops along the way on both sides of the river.

Thanks for this. We were planning to go to this area but I didn't know about Saint-Chappelle. Looks impressive!

I was just there in April.

There are lots of good restaurants in the 7th, many centered on and around Rue St. Dominique between Rue Cler and the Eiffel Tower. Some of my favorites are:

La Fontaine de Mars
Chez L'Ami Jean
Josephine Chez Dumonnet
Le Violon d' Ingres
Au Bon Accueil

The area across from the Louver is near the 6th which is where we have stayed several times. Some of my favorites around there are:

Boutary (caviar and seafood)
Hebe' (Latin Quarter)
Le Christine
Freddy's Wine Bar
Fish La Boissonerie

Of course, if you want to spend some money, my favorite restaurant in the world is near there - Guy Savoy
It is cheaper at lunch.

I have taken cabs in Paris and they are fine but I have no problem with the Metro.

Make sure to make reservations for everything you want to see at least a week in advance. We wanted to see the catacombs the day we arrived but wasn’t sure on the timing so we didn’t book in advance. When we walked up there were sold out for the day and the full 5 days we were there.

We went in Dec and used Uber to get around with husband, myself and three kids. Worked great.

Have some great cafes just walking around. Walk a few blocks from tourist attractions and you will rarely go wrong with the food.

Both my kids in late teens - 16 and 19. They should be OK walking a bit.

We just went a few months ago. Did all the stuff you mentioned.

Uber was reliable, when we did not just walk.. only used the metro a few times

We enjoyed the Basilique du Sacré-Cœur de Montmartre, its up on a hill, so you can see the whole city, was really cool at night

Also, did a Paris by Mouth tour that we enjoyed

This was the biggest surprise I had when I visited Paris for the first time. But be sure to take the stairs to the second floor. I got the feeling some people came in and left without realizing you had to go upstairs.

Get your family on the Metro at least once!!! Standing on the platform and feeling a rush of wind from the oncoming train before you see it is a cool experience.

I was going to suggest a bike tour. It’s my go-to for these type of question about LA. It’s great way to see the different neighborhoods in a short time and gives ideas for what to explore later in the trip. Venice beach, Santa Monica, West Hollywood, the Hills, etc. They offer e-bikes if some aren’t in the best conditioned. Trip is customizable and private should you want to pay for it.

Agree on Musee d'Orsay and Saint Chappelle, those are wonderful. May want to look at Normandy tours with Overlord, they have a day trip from Paris.

Visited this May. Olympics has this place in a state of confusion. They are erecting stands, rerouting roads [new one-ways], and traffic is worse than normal. Go, but know there will probably some access hiccups to buildings.

As others have said, get tickets ahead of arriving if possible. I have been to Paris a number of times, for work and pleasure. Walking is the best way I have gotten around. Metro works wonders for those places outside of the Champs Elyses.

Recommend Versailles. Metro out there and experience the opulence. The gardens and out-buildings are fascinating, The palace will probably be crowded. Worth a day ion my book.

Yes, I watched my Uber driver get out of the car, during a drive from Orly to Montmartre, to fight a Lime scooter driver --- twice. Plus, the Uber line was super long at the airport.

The Metro is fine and convenient. A one day ticket saved me trouble of repeat payments/tickets. Be super wary while on it - my wife (no pics) almost got pick-pocketed on it by a young girl.

It's a walkable city, but you need really good shoes.

Besides the usual stuff, I found Napolean's Tomb and Pere Lachaise Cemetery to be very cool.

People hate on buses but my suggestion for any major city is look at a transit map/ app with your lodging location and look at the metro and bus routes that go direct from your location. Buses in paris are extremely safe and fine to ride.

Its going to be smoking hot in July, bring a back pack for water. They have mini supermarkets all over the city for the life of me I can't remember the name, I'd suggest finding one by your hotel for waters and snacks. Nice to have a small back pack with a couple snacks and a liter of water at all times.
