They did. Now I’m really confused. My best guess is they divided up into a bunch of different entities under one umbrella to avoid going bankrupt when facing an avalanche of gay scout leader abuse lawsuits.
They changed some of the program names.
Now they are changing the overall organization name.

So when will the Girl Scouts follow suit then?
There is an extremely insufferable Woke brewery near where I live and two months ago they had an all trans Girl Scout Troop selling cookies in front of their brewery. I’m not fricking kidding you either, so the Girl Scouts are done too.

There were nearly 1,000 young women in the inaugural class of female Eagle Scouts in 2021, including Selby Chipman. The all-girls troop she was a founding member of in her hometown of Oak Ridge, North Carolina, has grown from five girls to nearly 50, and she thinks the name change will encourage even more girls to realize they can join.
Here's the question that the media and others refuse to ask.
Why aren't girls joining the girl scouts?
One of the reasons why girls were allowed in Cub Scouts in the first place, was because of all the little sisters (and big sisters) hanging around at meetings, events, family campouts, etc. They were doing all the same stuff the boys were doing, but not getting any recognition.
Why weren't those girls joining girl scouts?

Exactly, I am not against girls learning those skills. But augment your own organization. There was a reason there were GIRL scouts and BOY scout organizations. Sad. I think these boys now could really benefit from old school boy scout learning.
Time to make a new organization. The Baw Scouts ™

He wasn’t wrong. And I believe his buddy CS Lewis was of the same beliefs too.

Destroy this fricking abomination. It’s very existence is a stain on the memory of a once great group.

My issue with this is pretty straight forward. It's not just ok, but actually good, to have focused organizations like this that cater to boys. In the same breath, it's why the Girl Scouts are also good. Having these organizations where only one gender is the primary focus is good for mental health, as these boys are able to discuss boy centric topics and learn how to be men.
This gender blending crap has feminized the young men of America, and this will only serve to fast forward this process.

My kid at 13 should earn his eagle scout rank by the end of the summer. He's just finishing up his eagle project where he built/welded a bench for the city park at the local local fishing pond and collected over 150 fishing rods to be used by special needs kids to teach them how to fish. I can't speak for anyone but our family, but it's been one of the best things he's ever done and very much shaped him as a young man.
That that being said, I'll say is there's a bunch of "I have no idea what I'm talking about" in this thread.

They do, the Gold Award.

“Letting girls in”
The problem, as my FIL put it, is that the Girl Scouts don’t really do the outdoorsy/camping thing the boys do because not a lot of the leaders like doing it, but some girls do like the camping, or have fathers that would prefer they learn something useful

Exactly. Being able to camp out with the guys...even if it's just sitting around the fire and telling fart jokes...not having to worry about everything you say because there are girls around... priceless.

Wanting to be everything to everybody always leads you into being nothing at all.
No identity, no culture, no stance just inclusive. Hello children welcome to nothing.

Are Boy Scouts still a thing? It used to be for non athletic kids that sucked at athletics

Because those girls want to do outdoor activities and there are not any in Girl Scouts.
Unfortunately, you cannot get mom’s to volunteer to go camping. They don’t want to be outside.
Unless you have at least 2 mom’s at every camp out - you can’t have any girls attend.
I see the dilemma and I feel bad for those rare girls who can’t participate in the activity they love (outdoors).
But the dumb part is to admit girls to Boy Scouts and destroy the organization so that no one can develop character and enjoy outdoor independence.
I hate it all. A great program ruined with an emotional response.

It's really about who runs your local troop. As a parent you can be as involved as you want and can still provide a great learning / character building environment for kids (hurts to not be able to just say "boys" there).
And congrats to you and your son. I know you, as a parent, were right there with him.
