If you’re renting a vehicle there’s a ton of incredible outdoors surrounding the city. Spring skiing for Mt Hood runs through June if you enjoy boarding.

If you’re stuck in the city go to the Japanese rose garden. There’s an incredible amount of great food options too. I live in southern Oregon but last two times I went to Portland it’s not as bad crime wise as it previously experienced.

Go to the Japanese tea garden too

There are many awesome record stores in Portland, and some really great head shops. I was there last year for a week or so doing the tourist thing and found the whole area, including Washington, to be amazing. It's like any other place, stay out the few bad spots and you'll have a great time.

Ride over to the coast and experience some of that beauty. It's stunning.

If you’re going to Cannon Beach, check out the restaurant EVOO. They are very limited and it is a cooking show but it is the former head of Marriott’s dining group who got burned out and moved to Cannon Beach. One of the best meals I’ve ever had.

If you’re in the Beav, check out BGs food cartel and the Breakside brewpub foot cart pod.

In Portland, stay away from old town/Chinatown. The Pearl is ok. NW part of the city around Providence park is nice. Most of the bohemian type places and cool little enclaves are on the east side of the river - Mississippi Ave, Alberta arts district, Hawthorne, Division, etc

If you’re adventurous, do the ape caves hike in Washington. It’s about 3 miles of bouldering inside pitch black lava tubes under Mt St Helen’s (headlamp and good boots required). Do not attempt if claustrophobic.

Also, trail of ten falls is pretty nice - starts off going right behind a big waterfall

Hell yeah! That’s the kind of stuff I’m looking for. Same with every other post after as well. Thanks to everyone who posted. Big help!

Do you enjoy wine? If so, there are a lot of amazing wineries in the WIllamette Valley just outside of Portland. The best pinot noirs come from that region. You'll not be disappointed.

There are plenty of bars and restaurants to enjoy. Just see what the current hot spots are on Apple Maps or equivalent. That’s what I do. Don’t let this board scare you. I enjoy myself every time I go. It’s a nice reprieve from the July August heat down here. If I was vacationing I’d centralize in Olympia and venture out from there. normally I am in Portland for business.

There a great place in Oceanside that has amazing homemade pies. Oceanside could be built into the trip to Cannon Beach.

They have the country’s largest urban park, it’s a pretty cool hike through a rainforest.

Most of the city isn’t homeless camps contrary to the narrative.

Also hit up one of those fancy donut shops. Portland takes donuts to a whole new level.

As someone else mentioned, the Pinot Noir from Oregon is some of the best in the world. Ideal growing conditions.

Lithette #3 (no pics) lived in Downtown Portland until 2 years ago and moved across the River to Vancover after Downtown became a shite hole.Multnomah Falls is a nice place to hike and it right off the interstate. The Williamette (pronounced like Damnit so you won't sound like a tourist) has some of the best Pinot Noir there is right now. Eugene is a cool college town

Powell's City of Books. Yes, a bookstore. One that occupies a whole downtown block. One that claims to be the world's largest new and used bookstore. And one that claims to have a million books inside.

Apizza Scholes for killer New Haven style pizza.

Canon Beach for great ocean views

Multnomah falls for great hiking

McMenemins in Troutdale for booze and fun

I cannot get my mind around how they have made such an utter cesspool out of that town with how great the surroundings are. As I understand it, the place was kind of a rust belt town in the 1980's/90's until Nike and Big Tech picked up the local economy and it boomed. Looks like the city had their 15 years of fame and the chickens have come home to roost. I'd prefer the rust-belt vibe of 1988 over this current cesspool.

Get a shave ice from Wailua Shave Ice. Only other store is in Kauai and trust me, it is life changing. I'd go with Triple Coconut if I were you. LINK

If you're driving to see Multnomah (highly recommend) an the Gorge, go a little further down for lunch and get the halibut fish and chips from Bingham fish market in Cascade Locks. best I've ever had: LINK

The fruit loop trail in hood river is magnificent. Pictures simply do not do it justice.

I went to Oregon last September for about 3 days. Wish I had more time. Drove to Multnohmah Falls and some of the Columbia River Gorge, drove the coast, it was beautiful along some spots. Didn’t spend anytime in Portland, but drove through there on our way back to Seattle to catch the cruise ship. Drove around Mount Hood, but that wasn’t much at the time I went.
