Back in the late '80s I was a student worker in the Soil Microbiology Dept in the Ag building. Dr. Breitenbeck was doing this research with soybean plants to produce a better soybean yield with less fertilizer via a genetically engineered rhizobia to fix more atmospheric nitrogen that the plant can metabolize. It was a good experience.

Please explain how DNA of the host organism incorporated the DNA of the assimilated organism and then was able to reproduce with a new genetic code that now included new information..
