I was not making a claim about Christianity, simply pointing out that saying "X is immoral" is explicitly a religious claim unless you are drawing on another set of higher order principles that would constitute your religious beliefs. Binding morals are religious.

No, I do not believe that slavery is consistent with Christianity and am pleased that the abolitionists won that fight.

Because you are describing religion. Its like saying why can you separate religion from religion. Separate the values and incorporate them into a new religion if you want (that's what you would be doing).
