How surprising is the rise of Jalen Brunson to you?

He went to my high school so I’ve been following him since he was a sophomore in high school.

I thought his absolute ceiling was basically the career Tyus Jones has had.

I don’t think anyone on this planet foresaw him being a fringe top 10 player in the NBA. He’s put in the work and despite being just an average athlete, has the skills and the guile to absolutely take over games.

I never thought he'd be a 27ppg scorer who would maintain his efficiency (48/40/85).

Honestly thought he peaked last year.

Not insanely surprising as I’m a big Mavericks fan, and saw the rise start in his 3rd year in the league. If you followed Brunson at Villanova you knew he would outplay his second round selection. Now I wouldn’t have necessarily said he would be a 28 PPG scorer, but it doesn’t shock me he’s balling out.

When he got the chance to leave Luka's shadow and come to New York, I figured his numbers would increase to something like a 21/6. So it's safe to say he exceeded my expectations by a whole lot.

It’s surprising but it shouldn’t be. Too many Times in sports today judgment is made of players, size, height, speed. What’s not accounted for anymore is a players head, work ethic and tape showing this guy is just a winner and flat out balls

extremely surprising to me. he won NPOY the year after frank mason and i thought he'd be much closer to frank mason than to to what he is now.

he's got much more of an nba body than mason and not saying i thought mason would be good whatsoever. just didnt really think brunson would be either.

The Knicks sort of took a risk giving a huge contract on what many might consider a 1 year wonder, and it worked out better than they could ever have hoped for.

Crazy how good he is.

I always thought he would be a huge defensive liability due to his size and that would cost him minutes which wouldn’t ultimately cost him contract money.

I was wrong.

Devils advocate… how much of what he’s doing is because Julius Randle has been out?

NY also picked up Donte DiVicenzo and Bogdanovic… also Mitch missed most of the season with an ankle but he’s back now

Mavs fans could see at the tail end of his time in Dallas he was going to be a legit scoring guard who could at least be a borderline all star.

It's painfully hilarious as a Mavs fan to have lived through Cuban fricking up and letting Nash go for nothing proclaiming he'd never mess up like that again and then doing the same damn thing w/ Brunson nearly 20 years later.

Also, it was never a Brunson needed to get out of Luak's shadow thing. He would have still become the same guy in Dallas had Cuban not trying to get cute w/his contract b/c he works his arse off at improving his game and anyone who has watched how well Kyrie plays w/Luka knows that Brunson would have been doing the same basic thing expect he'd be more likely to be healthy most of the year.

His scoring is no doubt up because of this, but his percentages are pretty much the same as they were last year with Randle there.

He is leading this team into the playoffs. I thought the knicks might drop after the injuries to multiple starters. Jalen Brunson has stepped up big time. His overall play has been astounding to me.

This entire thread is “oh it’s not that surprising”

But the dude broke out in his 5th season in the league. He was under 20 MPG in his 2nd season. A late career breakout to this level is an extreme anomaly

He blew up his second half of the last season for the Mavs

We all knew he’d be a stud but his dad is a coach for the Knicks and everyone knew he wouldn’t resign

Stop believing that horseshite narrative Cuban created b/c wanted to divert anger away from fricking that up.

As a casual Mavs fan, I am not surprised at all. He was a heck of a player for the Mavs from all the games I watched over several years. High basketball IQ.

They would've won without him, that team was absolutely stacked and bulldozed everyone.

Giannis did the same thing 7 years ago.
