Cook was a 1st team all conf in a high mid-major conference
Sears is coming from playing in the Ohio valley.
Conference NET: 28/33
The competition is really bad. The AAC in which Tulane plays in, is a top 10 NET conference annually

I haven’t caught up with this thread, I’ll read because that’s what I do, but just at a glance looks like the same slap fighting that always happens.

No doubt AAC is a better conference.
I think people interpret me as shitting on sears, I’m not at all. I just don’t think he will be one of the primary scoring options despite his 21 ppg. And the stat watchers might be upset to see him at a 8,9,10 ppg line and call him a bust.
I could absolutely be wrong, but I just don’t see the quick first step, or explosiveness I would expect from a guy who is creating his own shots. He’ll create shots for others and catch and shoot. Maybe an occasional pump fake mid range jumper, but I don’t know that coaches like that anymore.

Yes...we know

Carter who only shot 39% will be one of our primary offensive weapons? Wow, another long season if that is the case.

Is a transfer from UT Martin going to be an impact player in the SEC? I doubt it
could Ja Morant have left Murry St and played in the SEC?
watch the guy play before you put your foot in your mouth.

Can he 10x over replace the minutes of cook and Carlos?
Yep. Before he gets off the bus.
Upgrade.

Seems to be a really big pickup will see how he fits into the SEC. But very good get from the jump.

And that’s the thing, a guy with his resume isn’t going to just start pulling star recruits. First you gotta play a quality brand of ball regardless of record. That was last season and he failed to do that. Next you have to win, not 9-9, win with talent like what we have this season. You do that year two through maybe 3 or4 then you’ll start getting guys.
Now that we have that out of the way, will you finally stop repeating your dumbass takes and cluttering the board?

Sears shot 43% what’s your point? Carter is a good finisher, he’s shifty and gets to the rim.
Sears is a decent distributor with a good set shot, he finds the open space on the floor when off ball. So he’ll have his high scoring games, but that doesn’t mean he’s the primary scoring option.

It's just funny that the bar for bball is so low; a UT-Martin transfer is a "huge" get.
Watching just the tournament, I realized that many of the top players on the Power 5 teams were transfers. The portal and NIL have turned the mid majors into farm teams.

Dalton Knect from Northern Colorado wasn't too bad in the SEC

Sears had 20 points against NC State, 20 vs Miss State. This works.

That’s not bashing him dummy, it’s tempering expectations which is common practice among you guys but once again when I do it you do a complete 180 and twist the meaning.

What’s the floor, below which he should be let go, for CMM next year? Call you shot now.

Please don't bring common sense into this. The same guys who say they aren't Mcmahon haters are the same guys who make it a point to come on here and make negative comments about EVERYTHING that Mcmahon does. It's obvious to anyone that Jordan Sears is a good pickup. Need an experienced PG that can help Givens work into the position and having a PG that can shoot, which we didn't have in Hannibal, will open up the offense tremendously. Who said he was going to be the primary scorer? NOONE. But the Wade cult has to have something to bitch about. So Sears won't be any good because he played in a "weaker conference". But Wade is the next Bob Knight because he dominated the weakest conference in the country. You see the stupidity in these takes right? Then they say "we" constantly bring up Wade. yes, because Wade is the reason they are on here bitching and whining.
How about "good get and hopefully he will turn out like Mark Sears for Bama". Does that sound like sunshine pumping? No. Same with Carter. You think TN thought Knecht was going to be SEC POY when they signed him? You think AL thought Sears was going to be one of the best PG in the country when they signed him. Like I said it's getting old.

I was always skeptical and never choose to partake in this, but Madking is right, some of you guys bring up Wade when he hasn’t even said one thing about him. It’s no wonder yall can’t have a serious conversation on here.

Justice Hill scored 15 and 19 in two NCAA Tournament games
Kendall Coleman scored 19 against Oklahoma and 16 vs. LSU.
Just because a guy (Sears) had a two good games scoring (by the way, both were blowout losses) doesn't mean his is automatically going to be a great player at LSU. But that is where the issue comes in. EVERY discussion is wrought with absurd and baseless hyperbole. I would be willing to bet that if you searched every transfer announcement posts over the last (now) three offseasons you would find EVERY.SINGLE.ONE talking about how it was "huge", "big", etc pick up...only to a year later see countless posts by many then claiming it was a huge pickup now arguing that McMahon has no talent on his roster (for a variety of reasons).
The point is, how about we stop with the hyperbole. Both positive and negative. LSU needed an experienced PG. They have now gotten an experienced PG. Did he perform well at UT-Martin? Yes (though there were also negatives). Does that automatically mean he's going to be great at LSU? No. Does the fact he is coming from a mid-major school automatically mean he's going to be terrible at LSU? No.
Until McMahon actually does something noteworthy at LSU there are valid reasons to be skeptical. But that would be the same for just about every HC. However, there is no reason to completely dismiss a player before he's played a single game at LSU either.
