As usual, the 80s and 90s were the shittiest times on record for yet another social pathology.

The Bible also says in Romans 3:21-24
But now God has shown us a way to be made right with him without keeping the requirements of the law, as was promised in the writings of Moses and the prophets long ago. We are made right with God by placing our faith in Jesus Christ. And this is true for everyone who believes, no matter who we are. Yet God, in his grace, freely makes us right in his sight. He did this through Christ Jesus when he freed us from the penalty for our sins.
To me, Jesus death, burial and resurrection trumps the Mosaic law.

How many "Christians" are living in sin?
100% of Christian’s realize they are a daily sinner and fall short of the glory of god. That is why it is not only important to ask for forgiveness of your sins but to also try your best to turn away from that sin for good. reading the bible and going to church is the best place for all sinners Christian/non-christian. You are trying and headed in the right direction.
Some people love their sins so much they can not give it up or they create their own personal god who is ok with anything such as your personal god is ok with homosexuality and never going to church. First commandment condemns this. These are false gods, false religions, and false conversions. These are people are living a life of deception and are headed to hell.

Compared to 1960-1970 which is considered the golden age of families in this country. I can cherry pick data like you can.
I also take into account the declining rate of marriage which is just as bad. Obviously there is going to be a decline in divorce numbers with a decline in the number of marriages.......but you knew that..........I think

I like my church and state separate. One can still be morally good without intertwining their religion and their country’s politics together. You know the whole separation of church and state.
More or less, people’s moral
Compass has drifted far off.
The destruction of the family I think has more do with the introduction of the internet and its growth over the last 20-30 years. It’s made material more accessible to desensitize people and make them wander away from marriages via social media mostly

quote:The nuclear family has destroyed the nuclear family. Until about 1950, the norm for human societies was to live in "family pods" - with uncles and cousins and grandparents and multi-generations sharing the burden.
Non-biblical divorce has destroyed the nuclear family
The mid-century abrupt change in format - insisting on completely separable "nuclear" families was a terrible decision. It places far too much burden on adults (particularly the males/fathers) and isolated people.
Back in the day, if a breadwinning father lost his job or came on hard times, the pod moved in to support and help him get through the hard period. Now, he's on an island - expected to be everything to an increasingly demanding spouse.
Divorce was lower back in the day because the pressure was much lower.

I’ve always thought social media is going to be the downfall of society.

Maybe people need to stop being hookers.

Are you aware that separation of church and state is a Christian doctrine. Christians had this law passed and it is a good thing for the church. Christians in the US did not want a repeat of what happened in England in which the government controlled the church. So that is why Christians created the separation of church and state.

Without the Bible and God there is no standards for morality.
The late Athetist…Dr Will Provine on debating Christian Phil Johnson at Stanford university……. “Modern evolutionary biology tells us loud and clear. There are no God’s, no purpose, and no goal directed forces of any kind and no life after death. When I die I’m absolutely certain that I’m going to be dead. That’s the end of me. There is no ultimate foundation for ethics, no ultimate meaning in life, and no free will for humans either.
This is atheism.

Luke 16:18: "Anyone who divorces his wife and marries another woman commits adultery, and the man who marries a divorced woman commits adultery."
As a Catholic, this is nothing more than the religion instilling Catholic guilt.
That verse is so nonsensical it's ridiculous. Let's just stay in a toxic relationship and be miserable. I am pretty sure God does not want us to be unhappy.

Damn. WWII wreaked havoc on marriage both ways. I cant even imagine. Wonder why the WWI doesnt have the same stats?

Does that mean we get to go back to having extended families?
When did "nuclear families" even become a thing?

Lol obvious answer is obvious. That would have happened during the Cold War. Clearly.

“No Fault” divorce makes sense when no minor children are at issue, but I have long questioned its wisdom when kids are involved.
Some 'No Fault' divorces are actually on the grounds of adultery. It can be messy and the victim can negotiate the settlement in his favor in return for going 'irreconcilable differences.'

Yep.
Why do so many people make it seem like it's some kind of Biblical imperative?
The nuclear family was invented by developers and government to break up families into individual units to to make co-habitation less efficient, and thus more profitable to developers and more taxable to governments. There's not much profit in Grandmaw living with her children and taking care of her grandchildren, instead of paying to have her stay in a home and paying to have preschool take care of the grandchildren.

What about if the woman left the man and sought out a divorce? When I married, my intentions were to marry for the rest of my life. My only way out would have been adultery, physical, drug, alcohol, or sexual abuse --- and/or complete disrespect towards me.
As far as I know, none of those happened, but that didn't stop her from leaving, and never looking back.
Same situation for me. Although I have no proof, I do suspect adultery may have been involved.

No fault divorce is the first women's right and it dates back to the Napoleonic code. It was part of the birth of the modern world during the "long" French Revolution. All other women's rights follow from it: property ownership, voting rights, etc.
Taking it away is basically saying: "We don't like modernity, and we'd like to go back to feudalism."
No thanks, not for me. Divorce isn't great, but it is better than the alternative, which is no legal standing for women.

Other religions have guidelines for moral codes. Not simply just the Bible. It’s a big world out there. Everyone thinks their faith is the true faith but you’d be idiotic to think that way. Otherwise your gamble is simply my religion is right and everyone else’s is wrong
