We all hate traffic threads, but are any of these projects going to help Baton Rouge?

Nothing can ever help Baton Rouge.

Widening 10 is like making the mouth of a funnel larger without increasing the size of the spout... especially when it easily clogs. We need a second interstate bridge in BR or a loop. We also need an alternative route for accessing Hwy. 1. When the main exit has issues, the exit should be closed and commuters should have to take another route.

The current expansion project is much-needed, but it will never do as much for traffic problems as a good loop would do. Instead, we'll get a bridge at St. Gabe that will offer some marginal utility, but will be too far off I-10 to ever make a loop that enough traffic would use to make a worthwhile impact.

Are the projects going to help traffic? Yeah, I think they will.

Are they going to prevent a wreck or stalled vehicle on the bridge from fricking up traffic in BR? No, probably not. Although I do think the improvements will make a significant difference for folks traveling eastbound over the bridge, into the city.

A huge part of the issue in BR seems from decades upon decades of poor urban planning. We need another bridge, but we’d be a lot better off if the city hadn’t been developed in a way that allows 2-3 miles of interstate next to the bridge to frick up the entire city in the first place.

There are way too many people getting on the interstate only to get right back off 2-3 exits later, because the layout of the city (combined with shitty options on surface streets) basically dictates it.

The projects......who cares. The studies are where the real action is.

What's amazing is Baton Rouge's population has been basically the same for 20 years and everything has gotten worse and worse.
