Flew to Dallas last weekend from BR via American Airlines. I spend 12 hours in Dallas airport due to delayed flights

I used to be of the opinion that flying beat the shite out of driving and flew everywhere. After 9/11 If it was less than a 4 hour drive driving was quicker because of security plus flight time on both ends. That number grew to around 6 hours...I am now at 12. If I can drive it in 12 I ain't putting up with the bullshite at airports and airlines. I still fly a good bit for work and the numbers of times I have shown up for a domestic flight 2 hours before boarding without having to run to the gate because security was fricked up and did not have a gate change, some BS delay or flat out cancelation is about 25%. The other 75% of the time its a shite show. Thats not getting into the BS that airlines do while in flight. Every time I go to the airport I am amazed that folks will tolerate the bullshite. Apparently most of y'all love it because the damned things are full to bursting.
The low cost, no frills airlines have a reputation for being lousy and it is well earned. The problem is the "real" airlines ain't measurably better, they are just 3 times as expensive.
You sound miserable. I fly very often. I arrive one hour before any domestic flight, check my bag, zip through Pre-Check and board with Group 1. Rarely is there an issue. Planes are mechanical so you should expect an occasional delay to fix the issue. It should be noted that every time a plane lifts off, flies 30,000 feet in the air and then lands safely is a modern miracle. An absolute feat of engineering. Yet, morons will bitch about the internet being down. Amazing. What do the airlines do in flight that is so terrible? Serve your spoiled arse drinks?

I'm not loving the safety record of US airline companies over the past few months

Assuming Dallas was the final destination why not just drive?

That's me brother. And if time allows I'll drive further than 12. No bag fees, no TSA, I can eat what I want when I want, the benefits are endless outside of time.

Consider the context and your statement is crazy.
Getting on an airplane is orders of magnitudes safer than getting in a car, any day of the week. Airlines, plane makers, and the FAA are not only incredibly rigorous about safety, they are also very good about learning from their mistakes and making changes.
Pop quiz: when is the last time a commercial airliner from Boeing or Airbus crashed in the US costing a life? Probably 2001 when American Airlines lost a plane right after 9/11.
Contrast that with driving cars, where we (a) do stupid shite all day like texting or drinking and driving; (b) never learn from our mistakes; (c) see 30,000 people killed per year from this and it never changes.

I too have pre-check. I haven't checked a bag in years. Almost all flights I am on today and for the last 15 years have been at least business class. Flying isn't remotely close to a miracle, it is pure physics.
So contrary to your dreamy love affair with airlines and air travel the average person has a completely different experience than you do. Studies indicate as much as 30% decrease in customer satisfaction with airlines over the last 3 years and almost 50% in the last 40. With airlines, not airports. Ailport numbers are slightly worse. The flying public is, according to the airline industry, highly dissatisfied with the state of air travel in the United States. I will trust the people who earn their living in the industry who are well aware of the state of customer satisfaction over someone who claims to love the service they get and find it miraculous that planes take off and land....

1 in 7,000,000
That’s your chances of getting in a major US airline crash
1 in 5,000
That’s your chances of getting in a car accident
You be the judge

Southwest. I think it's the best airline for shorter flights assuming you have a direct route

Dying on United is still better than flying with American

If it’s boeing, I ain’t going

Too bad you can't see Dallas from a DC9 at night.

Oh good gawd! Be sure to wrap yourself in bubble wrap before flight

Not American. They fricked up my check in and somehow it wouldn’t allow them to check in on a flight that connected in dfw and continuing somewhere else bc they said I was skipping the connection. I had to buy another ticket and pay the change fee. Then when I call back to get the credit for the rest of the ticket they tell me there was a weather event in dfw and they could’ve changed it for free if I asked. Now I’m sitting here standby for the first flight I originally had scheduled. Wtf.
