I’d keep working with the same salesman
Have him order in a car test drive it and have him order in another one. Once he stops ordering they in, get right to the point of finishing the deal and tell him to frick off. Have your wife pick you up in the new car.

Tiger Honda (of Gonzales) did the very same thing to my 76 year old dad. Really ticked me off.

Nissan Dealership in Kenner, when I looked over the final paperwork they had omitted the specifically and definitively agreed trade-in value. Just wasn’t there. After a good WTF session the sales manager guy fixed it and gave a bunch of vouchers for free service and shite. Weeks later to the present and we cannot find the vouchers. I think he stole them back from that bag thing.

Dealers will frick you over on anything. Last time I bought the dealer was blatantly fudging my paperwork and lying to me about what it said so that I’d sign an agreement to pay way more than we had shook hands on.
Also had a dealer in Texas give me a deal online, we agreed on everything, then when I got there they offered me 1/3rd of the value on my trade-in that Carmax had offered the day before. He only did that bc he knew I drove in from LA, so they played hard ball thinking I’d have to give in. I did not

When I was in the market for a Pallisade circa 2020, that same dealership (Ralph Sellers of Gonzales) was fricking scum bags. I spent multiple days reaching out to dealerships within a 200 mile radius via email and whomever provides the best quote on the model I was looking for would get me to come visit the lot. These fricks provided the lowest quote and when I got there, did a test drive and started reviewing the paperwork the price was ~$4k higher. Showed them the email with quote and they were all “oh we must have made a typo, we can’t sell it for that low.” fricking scumbags wasted an entire day of mine

Funny how those misunderstandings always put the dealership with more $$ than the deal they took someone's earnest for.
Isn’t it funny how it always works out in their favor?
Had a friend order a vehicle (not from the dealership mentioned in this thread) and when it arrived months later, dealership added a $300 surcharge for nitrogen in the tires.
He protested and said he wasn’t paying for it since he didn’t want it and they didn’t disclose it.
Dealer mandated packages, options, and “protection” bullshite should all be outlawed. Better yet, adopt the Tesla business model — buy direct from manufacturer exactly the car you want at MSRP.

What I learned is if you get a price that you want IMMEDIATELY close the deal because if that dealer thinks you chopped TF out of that price they will screw you. I thought a deposit would do that apparently not.

Almost all Hyundai dealers are garbage. One of the many reasons I would never buy one.
Hyundai will never live up to their potential if they can’t fix the shady dealer problems.

That is the biggest scam out there.

Sounds like a tactic from the days of old.
Back in 1972, my old man bought a Ford Maverick from the Ford dealer in Covington. It had a custom paint job, so it took a bit for the car to come in. When it did, the guy who sold it called and said it had arrived. When my old man went to pick it up, there was another dealer trying to sell it to another customer. My old man walked over, pulled the guy out, and said "Get the frick out of my car!" Poor guy probably didn't know what they hell was going on, and the weasly dealer ran inside and hid.

Crown in Metairie - Really good experience twice

I'm fully on board with eliminating dealers. Those bums offer no value and are nothing but a middleman who wants a check.

Sometimes I wanna buy a Tesla just so I don’t have to deal with a scummy dealer. I’ve had two great experiences with sales guys at Kia and Jeep but their bosses were ASSSSHOLES. I’m pretty sure one of them got fired because I brought my grandpa back the next month to buy a truck and he decided to walk next door and buy a different brand from same dealership.

Sorry you had such a bad experience and it really doesn’t have to be that way.
First off, I’m a Sales Manager at a dealership and we have established a policy that I think is fair to both of us. I don’t know all of the details of your transaction with them, so I can’t comment on what they said or did or didn’t do. Here is how we conduct business when a person is interested in a vehicle but is not there in person to complete an agreement.
1. We will agree on figures that are acceptable.
2. We do not take deposits on vehicles to “hold vehicles”. There is no such thing as holding vehicles - if you or the dealership have not signed an agreement - there is no contract between either party. ( we have taken deposits before on people that wanted a vehicle - never went further in the buying process and returned their $ to them ). As a result - no deposits.
3. If we agree on figures and you tell me you and your wife will be in on Wednesday to sign and what time - I will pull the keys Tuesday evening and it will not be available to sell to anyone else up to your agreed appt time. Anytime before your appt ( before the key is pulled or after your appt expires) it’s for sale. If I sell it before your appt - I’m calling you to let you know we need to find a different vehicle.
Finally, remember this - time kills all deals ( for customers as well as dealerships)

You sold the car I put a deposit on? No refund on deposit?
