quote:talking out the side of his mouth. The big 3 LOVE the dealer network. Huge profit center for them. They can floor plan to them, make them take shite dogs to get hott models, sell them dealership upgrades and tools. They insulate them from the customers with shite credit that they can charge 20%. Once a dealer takes a car, the manufacturer can mark it as a sold unit and the dealer carries the inventory. We think of ourselves as asute buyers but many many cars are sold in a very short shopping window and often through service when people cant afford a big repair bill. Walk on over to the new car side and roll that equity back in.
Stories like the OP’s are exactly why the CEO of Ford is seriously suggesting that the market move away from the dealership model. Say what you want about Tesla’s manufacturing quality and delivery delays, but you don’t hear stories like this about them.

quote:LOL if you think things would change much if the laws would change. The manufacturers and dealers have serious contracts. Most dealers have millions upon millions in their stores and would fight for those contracts. The car companies tell dealers how their stores need to look and how big they need to be to properly represent their product.
just stop right there. What needs to happen, is that you sorry sacks of shite need to have your government lobbied protections pulled and booted out of the way of the free market. You're not capitalists in any sense of the term: you're propped up and allowed to continue because sorry arse politicians are bought and paid for and put you in the way of free enterprise and actual consumer protections. It's called state capitalism, and it's the economy this country has today. It's the precursor to socialism. You're not only car salesman, you're also incapable of bringing value to consumers in a free market, which are both synonymous.

I'd say tow truck drivers are the scum, car dealerships are the shite that the scum sticks to.

THIS!
There is a fantasy among vehicle buyers that they can "negotiate" a deal at a dealership, even before 2020. That's horseshite. Oh you want it in red, we only have one left, and you have to take the dealer protection package with in house financing to get it.
Yet, there are probably 50+ of your car in red within 150 miles of you, but you decided this is the weekend you needed a car. A lack of patience costs consumers money. You know when your transmission is on its last legs. Plan for it. Or don't, and pay whatever fees the dealer wants to get you to drive it off the lot, today.

Sales staff refused to talk over the phone/email/internet, and the salesman I dealt with played games and was just generally a slime ball.
Local chevy dealer did this. I was between a 2500 and F250 when I totalled by F150. Dealer refused to do anything unless I went in.. anything.... even when I didn't have a vehicle
Ford dealer came pick me up to test drive

They did something very similar to us.

That is an awful business/ethical choice.
Sorry to hear it.

So we walked out and ripped up the check. Checked with other dealers but they were minimum 1k over that bait/switch deal from Sellers. Basically told the others being competitive would be nice because I'll reward the a-hole. Then got a call this morning and it was the original offer which would've put the other dealers minimum 1.5k over. Asked the others 1 more chance and they claimed they didn't jerk us around and if it comes down to dollars then so be it. So I replied "Not getting jerked around Fee - $1500" to one of them.
So in the end Sellers had the better deal once the manager got involved. I loved seeing the salesman get pissed yesterday though. Just sucks that you have to reciprocate the same jackassry to finally get a deal.
Those managers wouldn't budge at the other places even when I showed them the written offer. I know I should've left Sellers but at the end of the day a better offer is a better offer.

So you are going back to the original dealer?
And, you are upset at the other dealers for not being willing to agree to the price you want?

Not upset just shocked that they couldn't even come close. Now Greg LeBlanc got close (still higher) but it's a 3 hr round trip. I hate the drive to Houma with a passion.

File a case on them on the Better Business Bureau website. You would be surprised how much weight carries.
The BBB carries absolutely no weight and is a grift. With the internet, they are effectively pointless.
