We had a situation similar this year. Wife’s HS and college car was giving us fits, decided it was time for the new one. Went to the dealership, placed a deposit on one being built and was told it would take 6 weeks from deposit day to delivery day. Called for updates and was told “We don’t have any yet. Please have patience.” We were at week 10 now, salesman stopped answering his phone, so we showed up to the factory. They “lost” track of the car and have no clue where it is… We demanded a new one immediately for the agreed upon price. They tried to up the price on a model. We demanded our deposit back and went to the smaller more country toyota dealership. Got a better model for the same. The original place had a $5000.00 dollar markup on everything just to start btw.

Those country dealerships can be great in a pinch.

You got to be firm as hell with these places. I always tell them I’m here to buy a car, not play games. Here’s my number, I’m not paying a single cent over it. If they try to add anything over that number, I immediately get up and leave. frick’em.

So I'm a moron because I had to purchase a vehicle in 2021?. Even though you have absolutely no idea the circumstances of why I needed to purchase a vehicle in 2021....

Because my daughter graduated from high school, she was getting ready to leave to go to college out of state and needed a vehicle, but yea.....I'm a moron....

Agreed. I think it’s safe to say we found the guy whose wife left him for a car salesman.

Man Imma be honest, I don’t think it’s being firm on a price. When you need a car you need one, it’s agreeing on what’s fair to both party’s.

So if they say, hey I’ll be here noon on Wednesday. And tell you this on Tuesday morning. You don’t pull keys till Tuesday at closing. Then you’ll sell the vehicle Tuesday afternoon? That’s shite business. No wonder why people hate dealing worth you. Lol

He already said they don't take deposits.

My years of working with the general public have given me a different view. People will flake, lie, evade, drag it out, etc. As far as a dealer knows, a "buyer" is doing the same dog and pony on multiple vehicles at multiple dealerships.

A car is no different from any other physical item, in this case. I mean, most boutiques in town won't even put a dress on "hold" for more than an hour unless you have a personal relationship with them.

I had that happen to me once. Did a nationwide search on a specific vehicle I wanted. Signed papers 5 days ahead of picking it up. Had my financing and everything all packaged up. The morning I was scheduled to drive to Tennessee to pick up the vehicle I get a call saying it was sold to a local. But I’m welcome to “come over to purchase another vehicle”. I angrily declined

That situation sounds like a situation that is very common for young enlisted guys.

my parents are looking for a new car and they wouldn’t give me pricing on a vehicle they liked because someone else was already looking at it. If that dealership does business like that, find another one. That’s shitty.

But in this scenario, the dealer IS honoring that someone is already looking at a specific vehicle. You can't have it both ways.

I loathe the car buying process. I will, however, say that I had a very painless process with Ross Downing on Gonzalez. I bought my vehicle with a total of 11 text messages. I showed up and paid for it and did the paperwork. There was no shenanigans or major pressure on the warranty side. It was delivered to my house the next day.
