So I've got a beater car with over 200,000 miles just to go to work and back. No clearcoat and starting to rust and drinks oil like an alcoholic redneck.
Recently the airbag sensor went out and one other. Looks like the sensors cost more than the cars worth.

Do I finally just say Frick it and get a tundra or poverty pony f150 so I don't look like an OT poor anymore?

A nice vehicle is really only a need if looking nice is part of your job. Otherwise it’s a luxury. If you can afford the luxury and want it, buy it. If you don’t care about the luxury then buy a newer vehicle that suits your need. Plenty of 100k Toyotas out there for reasonable prices that won’t make you poor.

I wouldn't buy a new vehicle right now, in 3-6 months, they will be significantly more discounted. All these manufacturers other than Toyota and Honda have tons of excess inventory.

I'm in your position right now. I'm trying to make my current vehicle last for as long as I can. But when I do replace it it'll be a used truck. Not paying new

At the point that keping the one I have now running becomes more expensive than the over priced vehicles on lots today.

And by new I mean 2-5 year old. Not two digit odometer "new".

Like 100,000 miles before that.

I'll probably buy a new vehicle this week. Mine is getting to the point where it's less and less reliable and I need a reliable daily driver. I might buy one of the last of the manual MINI Coopers.

Buy a 8-12 year old Lexus...drive the crap out of it for 5-10 years, repeat.

My Lexus turned 21 this year, and I freaking love it...the 10-12 mpg isn't great...but it's smiles per gallon > miles per gallon.

f150

Don't do it. I drove nothing but F150's since the '90s. Quality was worse with each one. I traded my last one in last spring for a Tundra. I will never go back. The Tundra is superior in every way.

That last F150 was a 2017 with 60k miles. Transmission was failing, the plastic oil pan was cracked and leaking, and it had all kinds of electrical problems.

If you want a truck go with Toyota. If you want a car then look at Toyota or Honda. They have both proven that they are reliable.

It ain't worth anything so drive it until it falls apart. Save your money for a down payment so you don't have an 84 month $700 note like the welder and pipefitter baws.

Buy an old Toyota or Lexus that’s been well maintained with the 4.7. Pay cash. Fix it when things break. Much cheaper than a car payment.

I bought a gx470 and figure even if I put 3k in repairs a year it’s wayyyyy better than a truck payment.

If you are financing, try to wait until rates come down.

1.9% 72 month $5000 off 2023 Ford F150s
Sort by lowest price. They have XLs for $42k. They have about a dozen.

Bought a used Tundra 7 years ago for $17,000. It had 65,000 miles on it. Passed 200,000 a month ago and still runs like the day I bought it.

All these people saying “buy used” probably don’t realize the premium prices the used car market is still commanding. Lookup any type of vehicle new price vs used price and it’s usually hard to justify paying the used price as an overall value proposition.

Now if your only concern is how much money you have to spend to get the car, then yeah, used will cost less.

My car will have to be completely toast. Out of your mind thinking I’m spending a lot of money on a vehicle

I would get a used Tundra with the smaller V-8 if you don’t have to tow anything heavy. I went with a new F150 because of fuel economy. I wish I would have stayed with Tundra.

Maybe go online and build and order exactly the Jeep Wrangler you want, your color, your wheel and stereo packages, anything you want and nothing more. I did it for my dog-mobile and it's now my vehicle of choice.
