It is. And that’s why Ford is swimming in unsold inventory.

Ram might be even worse.

Ram is worse, Ford is second, GM is third. Toyota does have some, but in general they modify their build schedules constantly to keep inventory from piling up too high to protect their pricing. Stellanis seems to just be in non stop building mode regardless of their inventory levels. Probably has to do with the UAW contract burden they have now.

Cannot disagree more. New prices are more outrageous than ever. I’m in the market now and I’m 100% buying used.

You may be right when it comes to trucks/large SUV’s which I haven’t been looking at but know they have seen the biggest price increases. When it comes to crossovers and the like I think the better value is new at the moment for the most part.

Yes true it’s probably vehicle dependent. I am looking at large SUVs for the wife.

I haven't had a car note since 2010. I've been buying used with cash and not having any issued with the vehicles.

I had a friend who had a Mitsubishi Eclipse that was stocked with quarts of oil in his trunk. He would burn a quart driving to work and a quart back home. 30 minutes each way.

Trucks are like people. Their time is usually up when they have multi system organ failure.

Downvote if you want lol (who downvotes a custom Wrangler?), but I ordered and received within sixty days a basic Wrangler S (one step up from the floor); added a manual transmission (been shifting my whole life, I can do it some more, it's like autopilot at this point), which cut a 5k package that brought the dvd viewers in the back, mapping, and all that crap along with the automatic, which saved over $5k; carbon wheels and oversized tires the largest I could get them w/o a lift; and an Alpine stereo system.

Engine is an inline six with 305 horses for a two-door weighing 2500 lbs. It's an amazing little truck and my dog and I don't really care what anyone else says. I actually receive lots of compliments about it. Paid $34k cash (now into the low 40s no doubt).

Work says it has to be no older than 10 years and have 4 doors. I use my company car package to pay it off in 5 years and bank the last 5 for a nice down payment on something new.

You probably need to get a new vehicle. I don't know about where you live, but in VA. that airbag sensor would cause you to fail state inspection.

So I've got a beater car with over 200,000 miles just to go to work and back. No clearcoat and starting to rust and drinks oil like an alcoholic redneck.
Recently the airbag sensor went out and one other. Looks like the sensors cost more than the cars worth.

Do I finally just say Frick it and get a tundra or poverty pony f150 so I don't look like an OT poor anymore?

Same exact position for me in October 2022. I had a Nissan Versa I used to commute to work. Had 225K miles. With prices I was going to drive it until it completely crapped out. The engine timing slipped on the way home one day. $3,500 to fix. I limped it to the dealership, took $1,000 for trade value and got in a used F150.

I'd do the same thing today. With the interest rates and prices still being high, unless you need a new vehicle, don't buy one. Instead invest what would be the car note and wait until you actually have to buy one.

Year 3.

I just bought a brand new vehicle for about 8% off msrp. Shopped that 8% discount to about 10 different dealers and none even tried to beat.

I wouldn’t buy anything new. It’s just the depreciation hits you so hard

I think the best way to do cars is to buy something reliable that is three years old. Then drive it for 5-8 years and either sell it or trade it in right before it hits 100k miles (while it still has decent resell value) and pay cash for the remainder on a 3 year old replacement. Lather, rinse, repeat.

That way you (a) never have a car note, (b) never drive something that's too old, beaten up or outdated, and (c) take advantage of both natural market dips when lease cars hit the used market and right before older cars plunge.
