new vehicles are about want, not need. So get one whenever you want one.

I'm in the same position. Beater that drinks oil and the torque converter is about to shite the bed. It's also not pretty to look at.

The partners in my firm told me to get a new(er) ride so I stop embarrassing them.

Agree that 2 door wranglers, especially with a manual, are fun to drive but they definitely weigh over 4,000 lbs and the inline six has been discontinued since 06

But when I do replace it it'll be a used truck. Not paying new

I've been burned too many times buying used back in my younger days. I'd rather pay the higher price and buy new so I know what work has or has not been done. Then drive it until the repair bills equals 3 car notes. Basically what happened to my Maxima when we think a rod slipped, mechanic quoted $5k to fix what he thinks was the problem. I bought the Maxima was 40 miles on it and drove it to 105k, then bought a Lexus was 6 miles on it.

I'll never buy another new car. It is too easy to get a nice used car at this point in time.

I wouldn’t buy anything new. It’s just the depreciation hits you so hard

Meh.
That was a thing 20 years ago. It's not that bad these days, especially with trucks.

Dude, I'm driving a six speed manual (no OD) with an inline six, a 2020 model purchased in November 2019. Don't tell me what I drive.

Thinking about it, though, you're probably right on the weight, a little under 4k sounds about right, especially with cast iron bumpers and roll bar. I'll go look that up.

Looks like i'm in good company. Dealing with my Mazda with 186k miles. Apparently the TCM is the issue. $500+ for a new one. Engine is very clean otherwise. some interior cosmetic issues.

Did the outside? water pump around those miles plus some transmission sensor. I kept feeling the transmission slip so took a chance on that sensor fixing it for a few hundred bucks

Buying used scares me. I had a 2500 with 40,000 miles that was nothing but issues. Turbos. Def pump twice. Transmission. Got rid of it at 60,000.

I recently traded in my 2019 Mustang Bullitt for a 2023 C8 Corvette. Not because of need but want and I had the means to do so. Along with the trade, I paid cash so I have no car payment except for insurance.

Just do it. Days too long and life’s too short to drive a pos waiting for it to break down.

Modern large cars are damn comfy and easy to drive that the chore is less so

I will likely never buy an expensive daily driver again as well, prices these days are just nuts.

When it's costing me more to keep it running than it's worth. Unless you are a decent mechanic and own lots of diagnostic equipment, shop labor prices are insane and can cost several hundred dollars a pop for even mundane repairs.
