A Boeing whistleblower has been found dead right before he was set to face questioning for a lawsuit against them. He missed scheduled questioning and was found inside his truck at the hotel parking lot, dead from a gunshot wound.

John Barnett had worked for Boeing for 32 years, until his retirement in 2017.

In the days before his death, he had been giving evidence in a whistleblower lawsuit against the company.

Boeing said it was saddened to hear of Mr Barnett's passing. The Charleston County coroner confirmed his death to the BBC on Monday.

It said the 62-year-old had died from a "self-inflicted" wound on 9 March and police were investigating.

Mr Barnett had worked for the US plane giant for 32 years, until his retirement in 2017 on health grounds.

whistleblower lawsuits can put a lot of stress on witnesses, it’s a shame he decided to end it rather than finishing the job.

It was the damnedest thing, how he was able to shoot himself in the back of the head, twice, while handcuffed

I wonder how that happened?

Just happened to be in a high crime area that wasn’t a high crime area and shot by a criminal that just happened to be when the security system cameras were not on

When this happens in Russia, everyone (rightfully) automatically knows it was a hit.

In the US, we just believe whatever we’re told and it’s over. Anyone who even suggests otherwise is ridiculed as a conspiracy theorist.

I bet Airbus is behind this to make Boeing look bad. It's the most logical explanation

Probably just nervous about testifying and took the path of least resistance.
