A lot of Moldovans like Russia and want to be part of it.

Just like Spain has done forever to the Basques, the Irish to Northern Ireland, The Chinese to dozens of minorities, this is nothing new. States cannot simply allow themselves to break up into micronations unless an orderly process is followed. This is far from orderly, it's a Russian plot.

From what I read they have their own government, and their civil rights activities are questionable.

The dozen or more people I know from Moldova speak Romanian and consider Moldova to be a former part of Romania. Never heard them speak well of Russia.

This my friend is from Moldova. He was always pro Russia but seems to have shifted his mind set now that is parents are worried.

It will become part of Russia when this is all over. Alexander Lebed’s final legacy I guess. The 14th Army was stationed there, and the local demographics were very different from the rest of Moldova. There was a large population of Russians and Ukrainians.

I think Moldova is the poorest country in Europe. They should put the Russian loving Transnistrians on busses and send them to Mother Russia. I think Transnistria means across the Dniester River. Creative naming for a province.

Transnistria has been a Russian puppet and de-facto state for decades now. Russia is just trying to open up another front in the war and keep Moldova from being able to join the EU. Russia backed an unsuccessful coup attempt in Moldova last year.

400,000+ people live there, along with 1,500 Russ soldiers stationed there. The Moldovan govt recently passed new taxes and restrictions against this region. This has the potential to become HOT real quick.
