Any use of marijuana linked to higher risk of heart attack and stroke, study says

Smoking, vaping or eating marijuana is linked to a significantly higher risk of heart attack and stroke, even if a person had no existing heart conditions and did not smoke or vape tobacco, a new study found.
While both daily and non-daily users had an increased risk of heart attack and stroke compared to nonusers, stroke risk rose 42% and the risk of heart attack rose 25% if cannabis was used daily, the study found. The risk climbed as the number of days of use of marijuana rose.
“Cannabis smoke is not all that different from tobacco smoke, except for the psychoactive drug: THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) vs. nicotine,” said lead study author Abra Jeffers, a data analyst at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston who researches tobacco and smoking cessation.
“Our study shows that smoking cannabis has significant cardiovascular risks, just like smoking tobacco. This is particularly important because cannabis use is increasing, and conventional tobacco use is decreasing,” Jeffers said in a statement.
The study’s findings mirror other research that has found daily use of marijuana is linked to an increase in coronary heart disease, heart attack and stroke, said Robert Page II, a professor of clinical pharmacy and physical medicine at the University of Colorado Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences in Aurora, Colorado.
“The findings of this study have very important implications for population health and should be a call to action for all practitioners, as this study adds to the growing literature that cannabis use and cardiovascular disease may be a potentially hazardous combination,” Page said in a statement

Correlation =/= causation

So the study provides data on smoking risk, but includes ingestion (edibles) as a risk factor?
Big pharma funding this study?

Big surprise, smoking is bad for your health.

Marijuana vaccines aren’t here yet.

Still gonna smoke weed all day every day.

Compare with alcohol consumption and get back to the class.

There's lotsa people out there that aren't tailor-made to dabble with weed on any sort of a regular basis. If you're high strung as shite and get anxious when smoking it's prolly not a good fit. I can see that. Not to mention the added stress of transporting/possessing something that may be illegal where you are.
Then you have the people that can relax and ride the drug/enjoy it for what it is. I didn't breathe easy for over 10 years of smoking until I moved to Colorado where I didn't have to worry about having a plant in my car.

Some of this is pretty intuitive.
Frequent inhalation of smoke from burning compounds is likely to have secondary side effects.
Why do people become so defensive when it comes to marijuana?
Alcohol has side effects.
Cigarettes have side effects.
MJ has side effects.
OTC medication has side effects.

Did not read article, but how do they link heart health to consumption that does not include smoke?

So did they isolate the use of edibles to cardiovascular risks, or just throw it in there to carry on the war on drugs. Needs to be war on big pharma.

It’s bc of the vapes imo. Not edibles or flower. The vapes have ridiculous of amount potency in em. Vaping is just terrible for you period.
When we were growing up weed was 15-20% thc. I can go to the dispensary and get a vape that is damn near 100%. I hit one that was 91% and I thought was gonna have a straight panic attack. There’s no need to have it made with such high potency.
I’d be for a law only allowing 50% max thc.

Could be the nature of excessively high levels of THC in modern cannabis.
Hell, the MJ from the early 2000s is nothing compared to modern MJ.
The THC content is like comparing a beer to Everclear.

It’s because in states like Kentucky, legislators who are legislating morality instead of common sense practices will use this study to prevent legalization.
I’d be curious how many folks have untreated, underlying cardiac issues like HBP or tachycardia though. I’m sure the rise in heart rate most experience can cause issues, especially with daily use and high concentrations.
