Natalie Portman on the “Decline of Film” Amid the Age of Social Media and Influencers

Natalie Portman is chiming into the conversation surrounding the traditional film medium in the age of social media.
The Oscar-winning actress was recently asked in an interview with Vanity Fair about the changes she has seen in Hollywood throughout the years.
“The striking thing has been the decline of film as a primary form of entertainment,” she said. “It feels much more niche now. If you ask someone my kids’ age about movie stars, they don’t know anyone compared to YouTube stars or whatever.”

Within the next 20 years, advances in AI may very well have made the traditional movie star obsolete.

All they ever had was studio money for production value and media monopoly and that's what the Internet has exposed. Now all they have is the money for CGI. You could alwats get storytelling, writing and talent anywhere.

And most of the rest of humanity with them.

She was on the SmartLess pod a while back
She lives in Paris because she moved during Trumps administration. She’s one of the leftist celebrities out there
Would still smash though.

The technology for almost every aspect of the motion picture industry has been refined to the point where anyone with a decent smartphone has the opportunity to make a decent movie. With sites like Youtube, Rumble, etc. you don't even need a distribution outfit (unless you're wanting to sell it to theaters). LINK
What this all means is that you no longer need a big Hollywood studio in order to make content, you just need to make good content. Competition can be a good thing.

If this is true then I'm gonna give her some mad props... Most of those soft liberals said they would move but wouldn't pull the trigger. Atleast she went through with it... even though she's still an idiot for it.

Say what you want about her, she’s right.
My kids don’t really like going to the movies that much anymore and don’t really know any movie stars by name, but they know a bunch of YouTubers and TikTok content creators.
Outside of someone like Tom Cruise, the bankable movie star may quite well be a thing of the past.
Hollywood also didn’t help themselves by overrating on nostalgia feels with an overreliance on IP, remakes, and reboots. And that’s not even factoring in their penchant for political grandstanding and becoming so self-absorbed that they ceased to create enjoyable, compelling films.

We are flooded with too much crap nowadays with various streaming services. It’s quantity over quality. The days of the blockbusters with Hanks, DiCaprio’s, Cruise, etc are dying.

Nick Searcy said you are no longer dependent on Hollywood and can make films and shows anywhere. Allows more diverse stories to be told and not just one point of view.

We have seen a huge boom of animation on platforms like YouTube that has helped launch some careers. Hazbin Hotel started on YT before being picked up on Amazon. Digital Circus/Murder Drones both show high quality production is not limited to major studios.

She moved to Paris in 2014 because her then husband was made director of dance for the Paris Opera Ballet.

Well it also depends on what you mean by "Movie Star"
Brad Pitt and Leo I think are obvious "Movie Stars" up there with Cruise to me, but Cruise is the only one of the three doing really accessible blockbuster type releases nowadays. The former two are definitely in more high quality movies, but something like Killers of the Flower Moon isn't accessible or appealing to the average person. So maybe its also a bit of the high quality actors doing more high quality work with less broad appeal.

It really doesn’t take much for some of you guys to call someone a “leftist”. But sure, she’s to the left of most posters here. Not hard to do.
She is a gorgeous woman, especially in person. Yes I would do the sexy thing with her in a heartbeat.
