I think long-form filmmaking has peaked and done its thing.

this may be the first time that i've 100% disagreed with something you've posted. politics aside, Prime Natalie Portman is an absolute all-timer for me, along with Kate Beckinsale and Jessica Biel to round out the top 3.

Natalie Portperson has never really done anything for me either. Certainly nowhere near Beckinsale or Biel.

YouTube, Sam doesn't recognize any famous actors but Nard Dog and Dave Portnoy

Waving at Portnoy, "I know you from the video on Twitter!"

Completely oblivious to Jon Hamm and Mr. Avengers star...Jeremy Renner.

It was quite amusing for the movie stars quietly jockeying to get recognized and she finally recognizes The Office guy...and everyone else is just some guy.

Great thread read. Portman, of all girls, brought out the Poli-Annas.

I'm willing to bet she's one of those self important a-holes that refuse to call it "movies" and instead call it "Film" or "Cinema".

I'm willing to bet a person who gets annoyed at someone using one of several accepted terms for a thing, instead of a different accepted term, is also a candidate for being a self-important a-hole.

Why do you leftists always pretend that nothing and nobody is leftist?

I think there's really only one 'movie star' at the moment: Tom Cruise.

I don’t purposely listen to Critical Drinker (aware of who he is but don’t need rants on woke,) but he was on a podcast that I do normally listen to and the lot of them could only name Tom Cruise as a star.

I genuinely like Chris Pratt and a continue to root for him, but I’m not going to go see a movie that he’s in just because he’s in it. Same for Zach Levi. Cruise makes a movie and I’m probably going to see it. Rock of Ages is the last movie of his I didn’t see. Despite Mummy.

YouTube stars and influencers are about as useless as homeless people and bring the same contributions

Its because the movie stars opened their mouth and prove themselves to be boring or dumb. Social media stars/youtuber were more entertaining. Had movie stars shut their mouth and stayed out of shite then they would have had a aura of mystique and prestige. Thats on them hoss!

Their dad's called them moving pictures, just like they called planes airplanes.

I moved back to North Louisiana after living in Dallas for 30 years. My parents aren't the only people in Ruston that still call shopping carts buggies. I hear kids calling them that in the grocery store.

I was working a Mavericks home game against the Knicks when Pat Riley was the Knicks coach. He was sitting in the stands talking to some of the media guys while the teams were warming up. A junior high age kid asked me if he could borrow a pen and walked in that direction. When he came back with my pen I asked if he got Riley's autograph. He sid no. Kidd Kraddick is over there.

Weird smile. Five head. Large, unattractive moles on her face. No body to speak of. Could never figure out why she was this transcendent beauty.

I've never thought much of her either. She's not ugly but she's just really plain to me

I think this is closer to the truth than anyone wants to admit. Movie stars used to be almost mythological in stature because they seemed so unattainable. The only times you'd ever see them was either on the big screen or at the Oscars. Occasionally they'd make an appearance on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson or The Dick Cavett Show where they'd be more open and loose. But other than that, you never saw them and they were highly controlled by the studios they were under contract with so they never really said anything controversial.

Then came the internet, social media, and reality television. We see these celebrities every day and have come to realize they're just as normal, stupid, and lazy as the rest of us. Their opinions came to matter less and the mystique went away. Now anytime an actor or filmmaker opens their mouths on anything other than their craft we simply roll our eyes and tell them to be quiet because no one really cares what they think.

This is incorrect.

The company that makes Stanley cups hired Crocs main marketing person away and the first thing he did was start using social media influencers to push the brand to soccer moms.

Stanley has been around for over 100 years. In 2019 they were a 75 million dollar business. In 2023 they were a 750 million dollar business and climbing rapidly.

Mostly due to social media influencers.

It’s a thing.
