Art (which includes architecture) is a reflection of the culture that produced it. Humanity has been on the decline as a species for some time now.

Quite the opposite. Brutalism and modernism trace their roots back to the Soviet Union. Architecture schools are often the most liberal of technical fields in higher education.

It actually predates the Soviet Union, and emerges in Europe and the US at the same time. Frank Loyd Wright is an early example.

Drafting tools are one of the problems, and the fact we no longer use our hands to draw our designs.

So capitalism?

Commie shitholes having dogshit architecture has literally zero bearing on whether or not efficient capitalism ends up producing bland, boring, cost effective and safe designs.

P terry’s food is mid at best but their store architecture is amazing. All same theme but no two are exactly alike.

They sell a burger for like 2 bucks and it tastes like it costs 2 bucks.

Old school fast food didn’t have drive thru’s so that helped.

Because of cost. Materials are more expensive, there's more regulation than ever, labor is expensive and everything is about timelines.

Also, I can’t imagine all those pizza huts were great to sell when they went out of business. Being a bit more non-descript has back end value too.

The Clinton Presidential Library in Little Rock looks like a mobile home. Very fitting for our first white trash president.
