If you are in the oilfield the beginning of the movie is a bit much with respect to the sleeping quarters for A.J. and firing a shotgun by Harry.
As an aside... I went out to Garden Banks 388 a few times after the movie was shot. I'm sure a few others on the rant have been out there also. Most of the crew stayed on board throughout the shooting and were very approachable and mingled with the rig crew. This included Liv Tyler stayed out there. Bruce Willis stayed in Galveston and choppered out everyday.
Film crew brought food and chefs with them so the GB 388 crew ate what the stars ate so they were living large throughout filming. Touchstone pictures sent a copy of about every movie they ever made so the video library on GB 388 was off the charts when I went out there. Cool photo album of the cast and crew on board in the video room. They also put in a hell of an exercise room for cast and crew and all was left behind.

Elijah and LeeLee outrunning a mega tsunami on a fricking dirt bike is unforgivable, imo.
In real life, the tsunami never would’ve made it hundreds of miles inland due to elevation levels (Atlanta would’ve survived), and even then, the shockwave/air blast from impact would’ve wiped out New York, DC, etc long before the wave showed up.

They are cheesy as hell but I still love all those mid to late 90s Bruckheimer style action movies
The Rock
Independence Day
Con Air
Armageddon
Broken Arrow
Executive Decision
I realize it was released in 2000, but you can add Gone in 60 Seconds as well

Scientists actually celebrated how accurately they portrayed how the impact effects (especially the tsunami) would be and it’s effects given the impact location and fragment size.
I remember seeing a simulation of a similarly sized fragment hitting the Gulf of Mexico (albiet slightly larger than the one in DI), and if the impact direction had a northernish vector the tsunami reached as far as Tennessee.
But I’m sure you calculated the psi of the blast wave from Cape Hatteras to New York to know better about what it would do.

It’s on AMC right now.
This is easily one of my favorite movies.
Pure 90’s popcorn flick that makes you feel every emotion at one time or another.
I wish Hollywood still made movies like this.

I love Armageddon and will religiously watch it every time I see it when I’m scrolling through the TV. It brings me back to a time when I was out in the field working pipelines and it was almost a trainwreck every other day but we worked shite out. I mean the film is somewhat realistic until they get back to Houston after being contaminated by no telling what on an asteroid and they are greeted by the entire cast without so much as a quarantine lol.

Have you seen the movie or just watched a YouTube about how they shoehorned the character of Bear in there?

To be fair drilling is much more complicated than Affleck is making it. In the premise of the movie they need an extremely experienced team in drilling to perform what they are trying to do. That is not a very crazy thing to believe it would be better to transport the elite drilling team out there instead of teaching a bunch of astronauts.

Well, you have to turn off your brain but it is a fun watch.
That being said, it's not even the finest Bruce Willis film ever made, so...

You're not wrong, but that's also hardly the most egregious thing in the movie. Just going on the drillers though:
These guys are all experts in off-shore drilling, which is a different beast from drilling on land.
Not to mention no one on the planet is an "expert" in drilling an asteroid.

Must have been a line I missed. zero recollection of hearing it ever.

So the remote trigger got messed up on the bomb. Someone had to stay behind, plug a hand control in the bomb and set it off. I get it. Great ending.
Bruce Willis stays behind, taking AJ's place so he can go be with his daughter. Well, how the hell does he "plug" the control in the bomb when its 800 foot down in a hole? They showed him push the button from the face of the asteroid. Bomb is 800 feet below
Never really understood that one.
Loved the movie anyway and yes, we watched it a few nights ago

I can ride with this if DI isn’t #1. Because last time I checked, Independence Day still exists.
Along those lines, "Don't Look Up" is a great movie that's been on Netflix for a while now. Actually is very entertaining and hits on some philosophical things.
