And like you say people who don’t follow basketball, outside of watching LSU conf games, don’t realize that the HS rankings in states like ours are skewed because we don’t have the prep pipeline recruiting sites follow to rank their players. Our guys are always underrated but they’re getting to the NBA so it isn’t a talent issue.

So now the recruiting rankings are fallible? I was told they were a completely accurate reflection of the amount of talent a program pulls in

No you weren’t, I gave you a national standard to compare by, I never said they were infallible.

Because they hire shithead coaches. They are either too lazy to recruit. Can’t actually coach or they are so stupid they do the cheating themselves instead of having a low level staffer do it.

Bill Self wasn't dumb enough to get caught paying a player's girlfriend with his own checkbook... dumb arse of the year nominee

LSU could become a blue blood in mens basketball. They choose not to be because the football mansion gets the most paint and upkeep. Not enough dollars to go around.

You don’t have to buy it, it’s fact…. My bad, Louisiana is #2 now in NBA players per capita

Share your source since you’re so confident in Louisiana being a basketball rich state

Where were the LSU boosters? Why didn’t they step up and take care of this? Duke boosters gave Zion Willamson’s parents a $450,000 home. LSU couldn’t find someone to send this former girlfriend away happy?

There are several sites that say the same dating back to 2000, these numbers are very easy to find.

WW was nowhere near an elite hire. Dude couldn’t even make the elite 8 and was cheating the whole way. He caused a ton of bad press through his stupidity. Glad he’s McNeese’s problem now.

Couldn’t agree more! Wade was Dale Brown 2.0. Excellent recruiter but terrible x and o coach while here. Too careless with his recruiting “efforts” too. Of course all schools were cheating, but how many head coaches were dumb enough to use their wife’s checking account to pay out of or be caught on a wire exposing his methods. Don’t you have people for that like every other school did!

Well we had one until we decided we don’t care about basketball and fired Will Wade

So I wouldn’t say we “can’t”

Why is our basketball program so up and down?

It's definitely not due to a lack of crying about Will Wade. We have that in spades around here.

It seems that the ranking has slipped in recent years. LINK
15th overall in 2023, but that should be close to top 5 in per capita.

That’s not true. He reeled in some high ranking recruits, but we rarely had depth. Especially big men. His first year was decent and 18-19 was good.

I think it's allocation of resources based on a simple "if we gave you everything you wanted, how good can you be in 3 years" formula.

Wade basically demonstrated under that, LSU basketball's ceiling is 20ish wins and an NCAA appearance. He hit that, and for several years afterwards, he didn't improve. In fact, he kinda settled back a bit; at one point LSU was better than Alabama basketball. Then they brought in Oats and he kicked Wade's arse on the regular.

Other LSU programs= we know football CAN win national titles.
We know baseball still can, too.
We also learned women's basketball can, too.

I get the sense that men's basketball doesn't offer the return of investment required to "fix" it. We're still gonna get TV money, and half the crowd will still swap over to baseball once it kicks in, no matter what.

If you allocated the resources basketball would make a killing financially. The tournament revenue more than makes up for the investment. Each tourney win is worth $2 million over 6 years or $337k/ year. You start winning 2 to 3 games each tournament and you have a huge influx in capital

Not going to happen. Same with football with the likes of bk. He and these types are not winners
