You think they're about to pay 3x or more the current top assistant salary to Chip Kelly?

What drugs are you on?

Wonder what Sayin is thinking now. Doesn't really fit the Kelly QB mold.

From my understanding he had a relationship with Day long before BoB.... Wow, that was quick, not even 1 hour after BoB announced... I guess Chip had OSU over the Seahawks all along, especially with that lineup.

I'm gonna miss the BOB era in Columbus.
Except OSU was undefeated, and Michigan didn’t win a single game during his tenure, against anyone.

he had a reputation for hating recruiting even before NIL and the transfer portal.

He's still going to have to recruit as an OC. Unless Day told him he wouldn't have to, which would be wild to hire and pay an OC to not even do a big part of the job.

OSU is under extreme pressure to win it all every year. The expectation is to win titles. He hasn't done that yet. I don't think the pressure is that different this year honestly

I don't even think we're the slam dunk title favorite anyway. Howard will likely be good, but not elite. The running game and defense will have to be th leaders, and our OL was suspect last year.

The pressure is fever pitch to beat Michigan (and make the 12 team playoff), not win it all or get fired.

I'm not sure if he had one with day before BoB, given they were recruiting him while BoB was at Bama, but he had a relationship with Day independent of BoB for sure.

It's my understanding that OSU was high on his list before ultimately committing to Bama, like Downs. And he basically already had a list of transfer destinations ready to go when he finally decided to go through with it. OSU was at the top, and he apparently initiated contact with them.

And according to one of our most reliable and credible insiders (Birm), BoB really had nothing to do with that initial contact, but once he did, likely played a role in persuading Day to bring Sayin in since the only apprehension was that they were already bringing in the 4th highest rated QB in this class. Because the last time we had a top 5 QB, and then the #1 QB came in later, was in 2021 when McCord was already enrolled and Ewers reclassified late. So it ended up screwing up the sequencing of QBs, especially since Ewers reclassified right before fall practice, too late to really learn the offense to move up the depth chart to get playing time, and then Stroud ended up becoming one of the best QBs in the country, so Ewers didn't want to be no higher than #2 on the depth chart for another season. So he transferred to Texas.

Now obviously these circumstances are different, with Sayin still able to learn the offense, and actually in his natural recruiting class, plus the reason for transferring (Saban retiring) and quite a bit different than the reason for Ewers reclassifying (no NIL allowed in Texas high schools, at least then).

So the Ewers situation really screwed up a lot of things with sequencing of QBs, and what not, but despite some pretty obvious distinctions, I think OSU wanted to making sure the same thing wouldn't happen with Sayin situation. I think BoB just helped calm an apprehension, but Sayin would have come regardless if OSU was on born.

Is he going to recruit?

Is he there long term?

I don’t think this move makes OSU stronger.

He obviously wanted out and an nfl job wasn’t to be this go around.

The benefit is that it allows Ryan Day to fully hand over play calling duties to a proven play caller. Hartline will be the main offensive recruiter and learn from Kelly and eventually take a big time job somewhere.

Kelly will likely be here for max 2 years I would assume. Off the the NFL as OC.

It's pretty common for coordinators to have fewer recruiting responsibilities than the HC and position coaches, especially when they're might be co-coordinators to allocate different responsibilities too.

And at OSU, the position coaches are the top and primary recruiters, with Day obviously handling the typical overall recruiting. But Chip's role is going to similar to Knowles as the defensive coordinator, and Knowles has not been the primary recruiter for as many recruits as the position coaches, and Day is an offensive coach, which probably makes it easier to support an offensive coordinator.

Either way, all of the offensive coaches who were on staff last season (technically last couple seasons), are returning except Cory Dennis, the Urban's son-in-law and the QB coach. he was the primary recruiter for most, if not all the, QBs, so I'm assuming BoB's and now Chip's recruiting responsibilities would be QBs. I think that's a little easier to handle for someone who does not like recruiting, since primarily one recruit per class, and 2024 had 2 top 5 recruits, and 2025 already has a commitment from a top 5 QB recruit, who is from just an hour outside Columbus, so he's not likely to decommit.

This seems like a terrible move for Ohio State. First Bill O’Brien and now this? Jeez what are they doing
