Long story short re:auto insurance. In 2020 my agent calls saus he can get me a better rate with another company. I say great. Soon I start getting letters from DMV that I had an insurance lapse. I call my agent. He says don't worry, it was a clerical error, I'll fix it. Fast forward to 2024, I go to renew my license. I'm flagged to the tune of $1400. My agent is now ghosting me. I have until Feb 12 or I'm driving illegally. What recourse do I have against my agent. Does the state Insurance Commission take these types of complaints

P.S. There's also a $750 delinquent charge on my credit score from a different "clerical error" he hasn't fixed yet.

What can you prove? Because if you can’t prove anything in writing it’s he said/she said.

Also, change agents. It’s not like you have a policy to worry about canceling.

Take him to small claims court. If he is broke they can make him be your butler until the debt is paid.

Sounds like you made a mental "lapse" and are now paying the price.

Decent chance he didn’t remit your premium and pocketed it instead. You may be going to the DA soon.

Start by ousting him here. Then commissioner and E&O claim.

I had this same thing happen. You should be able to call the insurance company directly and ask to speak to underwriting/policy services. As long as you can find proof that there was no lapse, they will clear everything off. Or at least they did in my case. We switched companies when we added my daughter's vehicle and they uploaded the VIN incorrectly. Hope that helps!

I don’t take advice from my agent. I don’t even take his calls.

Did you get an insurance card from this company? If not, I probably wouldn't be pointing any fingers.

How long have you been an adult?

Take this as a lesson. Trust but verify. Always.

fricking insurance lapse charges are horse shite. There's nothing you can do to fight them.

I had a signed fricking document from the DMV saying I had already paid the bullshite arse fine and they still ended up making me pay it
