Why do you want the two items tied together?

I don't

Great!

Then why don’t you agree the bill should be shelved and voted on separately based on their merit?

You state that compromise is required but why would a compromise being reached be predicated on conflating two unrelated topics?

The democrats just thought they could convince the war hawk neocons to vote yes by blinding them with a huge check for Ukraine. The GOP base isn’t in support of either portion of the legislation so as soon as it saw the light of day it was DOA.

I don't. I want federal action at the border, and I don't want to see Ukraine fall to Putin.

Do you support the bill as it relates to the border?

Do you support the bill as it relates to Ukraine spending?

You can want what you just said without supporting this legislation as written.

I want to make sure I understand your position to avoid arguing past each other.

How do you propose handling the 'asylum seekers'?
Make them stay in Mexico until a thorough background check is completed with rigid qualifications limited to direct governmental oppression that is probable and provable.

Anyone who crosses the border illegally is officially barred from the process.

If they are actually seeking asylum, they can go through proper channels.

Giving absolute power to the head of DHS to blindly grant asylum is asinine.

Especially when it is a politically appointed position.

Forcing all immigration complaints to be heard in DC courts just proves this is a political ploy.

Remove the funding for Israel/Gaza and Ukraine from the bill.

Build a wall.

Punish any business owner who hires illegally.

That literally has to be one of the, if not the, stupidest comment I've read... possibly ever. Absolutely idiotic.

Not even fricking close, and you know it. There's a reason that Trumpers are against Ukraine, and it all boils down to Putin's influence on Trump.

now you've narrowed down your argument to asylum seekers as if that is a significant factor in the millions coming across the border. it's a small fraction of the invasion and can be handled after control of the border has been obtained. makes no sense to do nothing or enact something that's even worse for the "asylum seekers". weak progressive distraction

Is that why Putin waited till Trump left office to invade Ukraine?

Seems that if Trump was under his control he could have invaded without any repercussions from the US if that were the case.

I don't get it. Are we supposed to be glad now that the government isn't addressing the crisis at the border?

They are addressing it by calling the 1st 5000 migrants a day as no longer illegal/undocumented because they are given work visas and a pathway to citizenship.

Of course that just means we will get 10k a day to cross almost immediately if they pass this bill.

And then all of those 5000 will apply for their family members to come and they will end up here too, under chain migration.

That's absurd.

The reason is Tucker Carlson's (a.k.a., the Poor Man's Art Bell) influence on "conservatives."

Hmmm

Under Obama, Putin took Crimea
Under Trump, Putin took Nowhere
Under Biden, Putin took the Donbass and other ethnically Russian areas

Doesnt fit your narrative

no, we are against an unending revenue stream being fed into Ukraine with literally no explanation of what that money is going for or how it is going to be used at the strategic level to defeat Russia militarily. we are just told to keep giving money.

Considering that one of the major cities Ukraine is using to fire artillery against Donbas is about to fall, I’m not sure how I see throwing more money down a rathole fixes anything over there.

Then work on a bill to modernize the immigration system. Illegals here already are either deported or can stay as permanent residents with no pathway to citizenship, ever.

I get that sentiment but would consider a path to citizenship if you are gainfully employed, pay all appropriate taxes and don’t get arrested for anything other than a misdemeanor for a period of 5 years. After that you get fast tracked.

But if you don’t register for this pathway within a 6 month period you lose this option and will be deported or jailed.

But nothing happens until the border is closed.

We already allow that under "LEGAL" immigration of which we take in over 1.5 million legal immigrants a year

This bill just creates another 1.5 million a year legal immigrants who dont even have to apply for visas

You have completed your journey of "Dumbest Poster on the PT". I can not fathom someone being this stupid. The reason I am against Ukraine has nothing to do with Trump or Putin. It has all to do with a corrupt hell hole that Obama and the CIA created.

You have to be one of the biggest trolls around because even the dumbest of liberals doesn’t believe this.

We don’t support pointless, endless wars.. Putin could have leveled Ukraine by now. Ever since the CIA led regime change in 2014 the ethic Russians in the eastern provinces wanted out just like Crimea. It’s not Putin going around causing chaos in the world, it’s the United States military industrial complex. We care about our own country, our own border. Why don’t you suit up and go fight the Russians?
