Honestly, I think a lot, like me, are not getting any Cola. We actually haven't gotten a cola at my office in 5 years. They give us a small bonus so it doesn't compound.

What is accordingly? Maybe they are. Maybe they think she's worth a 3% raise

Maybe but something needs to be given out if your are “very valuable” according to your boss . If you know business then you expect to have to do that to keep good employees

Seems like she’s pretty valuable if they gave her a raise when they let other people go, no?

So if they mark up to get back to previous margins, where does the magical extra money to give bigger raises come from?

That’s part of your cost big guy

The only way get real increases is to look for another job. I've been working professionally for over 25 years and the process is simple. I'm always looking for another job at 20% higher than my current pay. I might go years before getting it but when I do it means my market value had adjusted to that level. I get an offer in writing that my current employer can either match or I'm on my way. Easy peasy.

If it's not good enough, leave. Hiring budgets are always more expensive than retention budgets.

Yup. So she leaves and ends up making more at new place.

Old place has to spend tiem and money training her replacement... who they will also have hired at market rates which are higher.

Absolutely staggering that employers have apparently not figured this out yet.

Complaining about a standard raise is fricking laughable.

But if it was presented like it was some huge deal then that’s somewhat laughable as well.

least she got a 3% - I got a 1.8%, and others in the company got nothing. this despite me being the only person in our entire company that does my job, and is capable of doing any of 5 different aspects to our group.

they tell me they appreciate me - they sure as shite don't show it

3% is a basic standard of living raise. My old company used to give them yearly, and everything over that was merit based.

When you look at it like this:

3% > 0% > -100% (layoff)

a 3% raise is downright generous.

My wife got "laid off" recently (really what happened is the guy who took over the dept felt threatened by her and another woman). The guy was a dick who didn't really do as much as my wife and this other woman)

Anyway, my wife goes out and finds a Marketing Director role at one of their competitors and wins the job.

She's making 35% more than she was at the previous company and is much happier. My wife kicks arse!

Don't be a punching bag at your current employer. If you know you got it, go out and get it!

That’s what you get when you wait until performance evals instead of asking for your worth
