Do you want 4, 5 and 6 year old children standing in potentially 15 degree weather to catch a bus?

We did, along with rain and we lived. We had to walk a block and half to catch the bus not like today where every kid gets dropped off at their house!

Kids are weak today..

Probably because students have to get on buses with no heat and sit at a transfer point on that same bus with no heat

Why don't the buses have heat? It has to get down to the 40's and 50's enough during the winter portion of the school year that you would think they would have heat.

It boggles my mind that there are people fighting to have schools open tomorrow.

Mainly because it will not get above freezing today except for about 4 hours. By 6pm it will be below freezing again and roads will re-freeze. Tomorrow at noon it will get above freezing again.

Is this a parent thing?

Why do some of yall hate school closures so much?

As a teacher, I can think of a few reasons. One, having to arrange care for young kids when parents have to work. Two, grasping to find any logic in it can be difficult at times. Three, the OT loves to bitch about teachers, and SOMETIMES it’s justified.

I have a few colleagues who were all over Facebook yesterday, absolutely giddy that our district made the call to close today. That kind of crap has a tendency to make the people who have to go to work as usual pretty pissed off. Typical bullshite that women do.

I see no reason that schools here should be closed again tomorrow. The “kids shouldn’t have to wait on the bus in these temperatures” reason is ridiculous. If your child really doesn’t have sufficient clothing to stay warm for ten minutes, just keep them home yourself. I agree that it’s gotten out of hand.

The dumbest part is that if we have another closure, they’ll start adding minutes to the school day. F that. Having little Johnny in my Social Studies class for two extra minutes has no effect whatsoever.

This is 100% horse shite. The roads will dry out today. No reason for this whatsoever.

Really? You are an idiot. That mofo can’t breathe in 100 degree and 90% humidity. I got family in Minnesota and they deal with snow and minus temperatures all the time. Nothing to it and he is from NOLA. Now he comes back and can’t take the heat. He ain’t used to it anymore.

Minnesota doesn’t cancel school during heat waves.

You guys are weak.

With the high being 35 and sunny, it will 100% melt the ice and evaporate. The only issue would be if there is any moisture that refreezes during the night.

So the kids that have sufficient clothing get to stay on track and not miss any school while the kids who likely already have enough problems considering their parents can't buy them clothes now get further behind in school?
So, instead, everyone gets dragged down.

It’s all about being “fair”, I guess.

Sounds very Soviet Union of you.
