Do you want 4, 5 and 6 year old children standing in potentially 15 degree weather to catch a bus?
most kids in EBR don't actually wait for the bus, the bus waits for them.

and kids up north do it.

The rest of the world handles the cold like a champ. Society doesn’t shut down.

And so, working parents are punished because they have to manage childcare AND work. Or take the day off or pay someone to watch their child. All of this cost is born by the parents and the school system DGAF because they got our tax money to keep them warm and happy on this free paid vacation day off.

Extreme heat is causing a rash of school closings and early dismissals this week across the Midwest and northeastern United States, as a late-season heat wave could push temperatures into record-setting territory over the next several days.

High temperatures on Tuesday ranged from 97 F in Kansas City and 93 F in Minneapolis to 91 F in Chicago and 92 F in St. Louis. Farther south, temperatures soared to 102 F in Dallas, 100 F in Raleigh and 90 F in New Orleans. Cities across the Northeast are similarly sizzling, with highs on Tuesday of 91 F in New York City, 94 F in Philadelphia and 99 F in Washington, D.C.

I absolutely don't understand why it would bother anyone. Why aren't people allowed to be happy about a school's good decision even if it's for the "wrong" reasons? Many people get into teaching and the time off is a great incentive.

No one likes having to go to work. No reason to run to social media and gloat when you don’t have to.

So the kids that have sufficient clothing get to stay on track and not miss any school while the kids who likely already have enough problems considering their parents can't buy them clothes now get further behind in school?

You can’t be serious saying that missing one day of school takes these poor unfortunates off track.

Said nothing about Minnesota in there.

They are simply stronger apparently.

The south will never rise again with all these weaklings.

Honest question, I’m not being an arse. Do you have kids in EBR or another district closed tomorrow?

Just push it back a day.
And when you Karens want to cancel another day for a rain shower, just push it back again?

Holy shite.

Louisiana, ladies and gentlemen.

I've been in Idaho when it's 18 out. It's nice and crisp. Cold, but you have gear for it.

This is worse. The US is a vastly variable country when it comes to elevation, humidity, funding, and infrastructure.

It boggles my mind that there are people fighting to have schools open tomorrow.

Sometimes I forget how delicate some of you are.

Many of the same people in here bitching about school closures were bitching about yesterday as well.

Why?

I have ice on all the shady areas around my house. I doubt the janitorial staff has road salt to de-ice the sidewalks at the school. Kids are stupid, injuries will likely occur.

Not to mention the overpasses that freeze over. Its just one more day, our kids will survive one more weather day off school.

The rub is, it isn't up to you. If you and everyone else feel so strongly, go change your local leadership. I'll be fighting against you on this one. I'm a bit more cautious, I'll admit. Good luck.

Don’t get me wrong. I am in no way complaining about having a day off. I do understand why some people don’t like or agree with it. Sometimes I’m on the same side as them, sometimes I’m not.

The fact that you mentioned about it not being up to us needs to be pounded into everyone’s heads. Teachers have no say at all in school closures. We are not even made privy about what goes into the decision making process.
