This is absolutely the correct board for this post.

Hville beat them 62-7 at Evangel. 42-7 at the half.
If I recall Haynesville also beat West Monroe around this time

Bobby Ray Tell was amazing in high school & amazing in Gary Crowton's offense at Tech. He would take those short screens to the house. RIP. If our Tech teams could have had any semblance of a defense in the 90's there is no telling how good we could have been.

It was originally on the rant. It was moved.

Sad to hear that. He was incredible. We had a really good defense then met him in the playoffs. He was so fast and powerful. I swear he had something like 7 carries for 200 yards and 4 TDs in the first half.
We had gone against talent all year, but he was just different. I really thought he was going to get some good PT in the NFL. RIP.

I blocked for Bobby Ray. Beat Evangel when we were sophomores and WM as juniors. Beat Evangel three straight years. Never forget the Shreveport Times headline “Good old fashion tail whipping”
All of that was done with country boys who grew up together from kindergarten onwards. It’s a damn shame how recruiting isn’t even hidden anymore. Paying to win in amateur sports. I just don’t get it.

god those mid 90's Haynesville teams were such beasts
I remember LCP's miracle run to the state title game and just getting fricking destroyed...again by them lol

We were in the team bus to the dome for the game and Coach Reeder (assistant) put on a KTBS video of a story about Loyola players at their pep rally. They destroyed some kind of cardboard Tornado effigy. There were no words from us.
We won 51-3 and were pissed when Coach Franklin pulled the starters at halftime. It should have been 96-0.

Watched him beat a pretty solid U-High team in the semifinals in ‘94 or so. He ran for 250 plus that night. Two great high school backs in that game. BRT and Okie Woods.

perhaps more people would read your post if you put his name in the subject line.

I was there. The punishing hit on Carl Pendleys (KTBS anchor) son on a Hville punt return is easily Top 5 LHSAA hits.

Bobby Ray Tell was an amazing athlete. There was so much fire power on those Louisiana Tech teams. If they had ANY defense, those teams would when been top 15 easily.
BRT was a huge part of that. I got to see him play against Alabama in 1997 I believe it was. He was a man among boys during that game. As we watched BRT and co. dismantle Bama, we knew he was a very special player.

Homer is the parish seat. Antebellum courthouse, old money. Haynesville is an upstart blue collar town that didn't even exist until they discovered oil in Claiborne Parish around 1900. Homer used to look down it's nose at Haynesville and Haynesville had a chip on its shoulder. IDK if it's still that way.

I remember a game he had a little less than 200 yard and 3tds. Nothing special except it was in 4 carries.

WM & Haynesville played in 93 & 94. They split the games.
WM went to Haynesville in 93 and won 21-7.
The following year, 1994, Haynesville came to WM and won 16-7.

Damn. Played against him.
Same. Had the privilege of trying to tackle him and Meaders (sp?). Felt more like a obligation. He was awesome at Haynesville.
