Les didn't completely handcuff the offense until after Jarrett Lee was prematurely thrust into action because of RP getting kicked off the team. The pick 6s made Les go ultra conservative. IMO, Les would have let RP go wild with the offense. But we'll never know what could have been.

Mettenberger is the most overrated QB in LSU history. He never won a game that mattered, had one good game Bama '12, and padded stats against shite teams. And he did all that with OBJ and Jarvis Landry. I'm sick of hearing about this bum.
I'd go so far as to say had Les put Mett into the NCCG (and let him throw the ball) LSU would have won. Miles had nothing to lose.

Go back and watch game films of Etling's tenure as LSU QB. Mediocre was his ceiling. More often than not he was poor. Look at the Alabama and Florida games in 2016 and the Troy & Miss St games in 2017 and you know what I mean.
I had a lot of respect for Etling. He really tried to achieve at a high level, and was thrust into a whirlpool with the end of the Miles regime transitioning to Coach O. But mediocre was as good as we ever saw out of his play. Burrow was the first real top-shelf LSU QB in years.

And what if QB Zack Lee signs with LSU in 2010ish instead of the Dodgers hoping to be the next Don Drysdale.

Not with Miles, or with a then very green Mett. Mett had talent, but wasn't very good even at any point in 2012.

wins over A&M and USCe in '12
LSU won those games on the strength of stellar defense and strong running by Kenny Hilliard, Alfred Blue and Jeremy Hill. Mett was terrible with his scattershot passing vs A&M, and he threw a disastrous pick v SC which was potentially a 14 point turnaround early in that game.
LSU won those two games in spite of Mett, not because of. He was terrible

Agree with your sentiment in general but he did throw a nice TD to Boone (?) vs A&M. And regardless of how productive he was he was the QB in both top-10 wins.

That one joint changed the history of Lsu football. In stead of probably 2 more national championships.. We start a freshman QB then run conservative offenses through the next 10 years. Poor QB play til Danny Etling
Les probably has one of the most dynamic offenses in the country instead of starting a Harvard transfer.

I would have to say Cecil The Diesel one of the Biggest What If in LSU Football.

Remember when we lost Eric Jefferson to the big10?
He was the best prospect out of La ever.
Amounted to a non factor.

What if Bo Rein drove instead of flew
Bo Rein is too easy to “what-if.” And yes, I think he would have done well at LSU but over the decades people have declared he would have won five straight NC’s.
And face the facts. LSU football was still being run by the good ole boys in the back room of Phil’s Oyster Bar in New Orleans in 1980. Had Bo Rein been an early Nick Saban, he likely would have quit in disgust and moved on to where his talents were more appreciated.
But since we’ll never know how a Rein reign would have turned out, countless LSU fans have convinced themselves he was Vince Lombardi, Nick Saban, and Knute Rockne all rolled into one.

This. That 2008 season changed the trajectory of the LSU program. Even though LSU probably should have won the NC in 2011, the stagnant, ultra-risk averse offense that came about post 2008 left several NC chances on the table.
There was virtually no gap between LSU and Alabama in the early 2010’s. The only difference was Saban was willing to adapt with the ever evolving landscape and Les refused to. If RP doesn’t get kicked off the team Saban may have much fewer NCs because LSU would have been a much more formidable hurdle
Prior to, and even in 2008 LSU’S offense was much more explosive under Les

Those losses to ole miss and uga in 2008 changed Les
Our 2009-10 offenses were an absolute joke relative to the talent on the roster.
No matter the OC, crowton, krags, stud, cam…it was the same offense. Im so glad that moron is long gone

Too Many What ifs
What if Trey Prather doesn't go to Vietnam
What if Mike Miley returns to LSU for his Senior Season
What if Bo Rein drove instead of flew
What if Josh Booty arrives in Baton Rouge in 1994 instead of 1999
Sorry, I got caught up in the heat of the moment.

RP getting booted started a run of young qbs having to play before they were ready. Qb room was never really stable with quality and depth until Joe Burrow transferred in.

I thought this was going to be about Bo Rein deciding to drive instead of flying.
